Too Early?

Other than Film Noir, Gangster, Spy, Kung Fu, One Script, Romance, etc.

All I can think of is Musical or Western... or musical western.... or musical anything really. Two genres mixed may be interesting.

Romantic Kung Fu maybe?

Romantic zombie kung fu musical western!

I hereby claim the title: "Night of the dead drunken master lovers... On the range"

Kung Fu?

My first instinct: ick ick ick

My second response: hey, I can get behind that.

My mind is already stranging it up.

That proposal is doing nothing for me.

Would it be fun? Betcher ass it would be...

But I think after screening the fiftieth or
sixtieth Kung Fu entry, I would be clinically
insane.

We need something with a more broad subject matter IMHO.

I agree completely - we need a theme that can tie all the entries together without limiting them too much. I'd go nuts watching 30+ Kung Fu shorts ...

I feel the same way about 'film noir' - even though I agree it would be cool - I think it invites too many cliches, and we'd get tired of the entries pretty quickly.

How about instead of choosing a genre we choose a location - or a situation? Or a prop?
That might help tie them all together but keep the style different among them so that they'll be more interesting to watch.

I don't know... not much of an idea on my part, I know - I just know I wouldn't want to watch that many Kung Fu entries.

Something broad but not a genre, as suggested earlier. A short that involves the internet, for example. ?

Well, then the contest goes back to the way it was when we first started it and didnt have as many entries. Having a genre has seemed to bump it up because everyone was sycked about a zombie flick and gave focus to the contest. It also helps to sell DVDs with a focus on genre. Cant have a DVD saying "shorts that involves the internet" fest. Zombiefest, Sci-Fi fest, Noir-fest, Vampirefest, There are still many choices to keep us busy for years.

how about films about dvxuser members.

"John Hudson Hawk"

"Barry and the Hendersons"

"Briceman"

"Earth Girls are Easy"

I think doing two contests would be cool, maybe...

A one month long romance contest [the less popular choice]
and
also another contest of another bigger genre that lasts the full three months.

My thoughts are similar; Sci-fi was cool because it was so broad. Film Noir and Kung Fu limit too much. Maybe a “horror” genre would be cool, broadening the Zombie category a bit.

I'm game for whatever.

Doing a contest about feminine hygiene products might be fun and awkward with an emphasis on awkward. Just another thought.

I also recall "mockumentary" being kicked around last time. That's pretty broad, considering the infinite forms that documentaries can take (particularly if you losen up the term and include "reality" stuff in the mix).
