Sure, some of the genres would take more creativity to give reason & credibility to the Noir style, but that's what this is all about ... pushing our creative envelope. For those who want Noir, there's no reason they can't do it no matter what the subject is, but I'm not sure forcing everyone to have the same "look" would make it as entertaining to sit through 40+ films.

It could be the love of one brother giving his life to save the other, in the line of duty, as they bust down a crime syndicate during the Great Depression (Exploring love, crime/thriller, with a Noir style).
Hmmmm. Interesting . . .JimtheJib said:how about a fest that doesn't have any restrictions except time? that would mix things up a bit... the only problem that might cause would be voting on the best one...
I LIKE that one! But I already made a short like that! That's okay, I could do another one.pmark23 said:<6 minutes. DVX/HVX. No dialogue.
Umm, let's not be so quick to say that 'no dialog = no acting.' Silent films can be even harder than talkies. If you've got a crappy actor, than they certainly won't be able to hold an audiences attention.ecarr said:wow, at first no dialogue sounded kinda out there, but after you think about it, it's actually a really good idea.
poo pooty acting/dialogue can kill a film in a second, and skilled actors are really hard to find for an independent. if you get rid of all the worries about dialgue and acting, then you can really focus on the visual storytelling, which is what it's all about. i think the films would probably be more interesting.
believe me, i know how hard it is to get a good actor. but for this, all you need is a place holder. ben affleck would be perfect!
