Timefest entry "Survival"

You have some wonderful shots opening the film. Such a bizarre location too. I’m not sure the music fits this film at all. Perhaps at the beginning, but that’s where it should have ended. (imo of course) a custom score would really push this film to another level. Then, at the end, intertwine the same toy chime sound back to the end. Creep factor goes way up.

I loved the concept and execution of this film. In a way, you sympathize for the killer and wonder what torture method he’s going to come up with next.
Congrats on entering the fest.

Im extremely proud of this film, and i respect and admire everyone that help bring this to life. This was the most fun that ive ever had making a film. Thanks for watching. Jerry you is Bad ass.

I have to agree without Jerry this would not have been such a success. Thanks Jerry you rock brother... :-Laugh(DBG)-1

Thought I'd chime in too: Nice freaking work, Mr. Jeremiah! I envy your supreme filmmaking abilities and, accordingly, will burgle them soonly.

Such an unsatisfying ending! Arg! But - what a phenomenally well-done short. Every single scene looked like a million dollars - and I CANNOT believe this isn't a RED, or even an HVX??? Amazing!!!!! No 35mm adaptors either?? It truly is all about the operator, not the machine.

Thank you for making this - yep, it's in my top 5.

Thank you so much, yes in fact it was shot with two dvx100B's and a dvx100A no filters or adapters just plain old fashioned cinematography and great editing by Jeremiah.

The production values were really high and it was beautiful to watch. I LOVED that opening shot where we see glimpses of the torturer/torturee through holes in the wooden boards.

I wasn't too keen on the recurring voice-over - it seemed like it was trying too hard to be badass. The first time it was okay, but then the one with the shard of glass actually made me laugh and vaguely reminded me of "how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop." The visual storytelling was so strong that I think it would be more powerful to lose the voice overs and just have this amazing story with no dialogue at all.

My only other nitpick is that the transition from day to night seemed a little off. I'd have to watch again to put my finger on it.

Great acting and cinematography - amazing that it was shot on a DVX without an adapter! And great locations... it was really a treat.

My comments will be brief since I am attacking this so late in the game. Very good job. Several of your shots were outsanding, for example, the opening one looking through the building at the girl and her captor. I have said this several times this fest: the narrative approach is hard to pull off. I have seen many narrative pieces that didn't work for me, yours was not one of them.

Great job and good luck!

Thanks man I hope you make your way down here for the festivities...

Awesome film. Did you use steadicam for those tracking shots of running? Because those looked incredibly professional.

Lighting was amazing (I agree with others it looks like it could've been RED or even film)

The girl missing in the end I wasn't too happy about. Would've liked a clue of what happened. (After the knife guy shows up, I was really thinking it was going to end with the girl waking up and looking over to see HIM driving the truck)

Interesting story and very professional execution. Nice work.

I think this is one of those sleepers (and I looked for it based on the thread pauly started about getting people to view and comment) that has awoken late.

I really liked it, the music did not distract me as much as some of the others, granted I did take notice of it but was not that distracting.

As almost everyone else, the girl. I thought he was going to drag the girl from the van, then you show him with the driver in the cabin... The girl... I guess was disposed of.

My only other nitpick is the gag. They are in the middle of nowhere, who is going to hear? Except the kidnapper and a good kidnapper would WANT to hear.

All in all this was a very good little movie.

I sure wish it would have been a RED man I want to see what we can do with one of those sweeties. There was a steady rig I made myself but the running shots were shot out of the side of that VW van in reverse. Thanks for all the great feedback.

Congrats on the top 8! It's what brought my attention to this film.

VERY nice camera work throughout the film. Extremely well done. Overall the sound was excellent as well, though I think a different/improved SFX could have been used for the glass cutting the rope.

Performances (though little to no spoken words) were solid for sure, however the story itself was actually (in my opinion) the weakest link here. It was good, but didn't live up to the levels of all the rest of the production values, in my opinion. Speaking of which, GREAT locations as well.

Overall, this is a very solid film, and certainly worthy of being in the top 8. Again, congratulations!
