Tie Mic or Rode Mic

I am doing a wedding...it's short notice as I wasn't starting actual paid filming until summer 2010...but I need to buy a better microphone as I only own the onboard mic...
does anyone know what price range I should go for...whether to use ebay...or if there's any shops in manchester?

Thanks :)

His Rogue Weddings site says he's based in Cheshire, England so he does mean Manchester, England.

And for a good price range mic I would go for the Rode NTG-2 as it's cheap and fairly good. I'm picking one up for myself soon but from what I've seen from sound tests and comparisons it's right up your alley.

Here's one on eBay. It's cheap but used so don't know what to expect from it. It's about £70.

Here's a new Rode mic on eBay but it's about twice as much.

If you have more money to spend I suggest you find a better mic than the Rode but if you're looking for cheap this is what you're looking for but if not than find one with better sound quality.

Hope this helps.

get the ntg-2 mic
you'll pay more but it's worth it.
I've owned the ntg-2 for two years now and I've been very happy with it.
I know a lot of people here own the ntg2 as well and I never heard anyone complain.

Thanks for your good informative post! :) I'll have a look at them and see...What Tie Mic price range would you say? or would the Rode about 3 feet away from the bride be enough?

The onboard was just about ok in the trials I did...but there are Tie mics wireless ones on ebay for £5 which is terribly cheap so I need to research more :)
