A couple questions about the Kessler Crane

I am debating whether i should run my tripod head with the crane or get there Fluid Swivel head. The head i have is a cheap head, so i dont mind if it gets messed up. The next question i have is how many people buy monitors for the crane? I see a lot of pictures where people just about the lcd screen on the camera. All input is welcomed! THanks

I have run the crane on my 501 head a number of times. That's a decent head (not nearly rated for the rate of the crane), and it really strains. Beyond that, most tripod legs aren't strong enough that handle it either. If you have some cheap head, it'll probably just explode if you try to put the crane on it.

An external screen is nice, but it depends on the movement you are trying to pull off. For most of them, you can eyeball it off the LCD, unless you go for a really high angle.

Oh, so you are saying that the tripod legs may not be strong enough? They look strong and feel solid.. You are probably right about the head though, it will probably explode. How is the 501 head? I was thinking about getting one for the end of the crane...

I thought a head for the end of the crane was a good idea myself, and purchased one, but never used it. You find out that what you really need is a motorized head. Now, that would come in handy!

They're still working on the new Hydra Turret. It will be around 1k i guess. I never liked the underslung turret. I actually use the cheap Bescor motorized head. It gets you from point A to point B. And with the right person working it you can actually get some decent shots.

Honestly i dont know what the brand of the tripod is. I bought it off ebay a while back for 250 or so with the head. Yea, i thought that the tripod head at the end of the crane would be nice for certain situations but maybe not? I have been looking into motorized heads for a while, and the only reasonably priced one i've found was the cheapest one from kessler which i wasnt sure if it was a piece of junk or not. I saw the turret also but im going to get the concept of the crane down first and then go spending that money.. Haha those things are expensive..

I saw they now have a heavy duty fluid head designed by kessler for a little under $300 i think. Haven't tried it out but I'd opt for that over the fluid swivel + ball relocator (at the end of the tripod).
