Thoughts on rumored 5D Mark IV

This is very good assessment of the puppet strings that make this market so confusing at times. Being from the US, this type of business behavior is not allowed in our system, so it seems foreign. It also demonstrates the power of the "disrupter" companies like RED and Blackmagic Designs because as they are outside the collusion they can throw wrenches in the big plan. So far this has not happened in the still world but has in the video world...

A) It is foreign and it is legal ... over there. In the US, it is not legal but then someone would have to prove damages. Jeffrey Kessler, nowadays famous for his Tom Brady vs. the NFL part, was in his younger days the lead defense counsel in the anti-trust case filed by the US TV manufacturers such as Zenith, Curtis Mathis, Sylvania, et al. against the Japanese companies such as Sony, Sanyo, Hitachi, et al. The suit accused the Japanese big boys of price-dumping, as their US stickers were lower than they were in Japan proper. Kessler eventually won the case and the US TV makers promptly folded one after one. This was from the mid-late 1980's too.

Here, you'd have to prove the collusion and the damages, which is next to impossible. What is this costing a consumer? Oh, an EF-to-MFT Metabones adapter that he might have bought anyway. Case closed.

B) Yes, BMD, Red and, to some extent, Samsung are the disrupters here. Kinefinity, Apertus and AJA tried too but largely to no avail. BMD seems to be sitting the prettiest, despite all their problems. They just need to follow up with their quality control because, on specs, they can often find a niche that is not addressed by the majors.

So, the new, low reliability rumors are that MKIV won't even have 4K. I don't buy it.

Once again, the low cred rumors have two MK IV sub-types, one with 4K, one without. Their release, if any, isn't deemed imminent.

I do know a little bit about what's going on there behind the scenes. This thread is a waste of your time. But so are most speculation / rumor threads.
