I didn't hear anything about 700 specific codecs, was that info from somewhere else? Is there a sony press release yet as Mike mentions in the video?

Please go to 08:19
he clearly states that 4K and 2k will be codec options.
Agreed, and it's quite baffling. Can this because Sony has refused to grant BMD the rights to E-mount or something?BMD missed a trick (again) with sticking to an EF mount. They should have done a reduced mirrorless mount to open up the options of so many different lenses. Including adapters like the speedbooster, tilt'n'shift, helicoid focusing adapters... That is the one thing that would make me think twice about an F5. The sheer flexibility of that e mount is quite amazing.

My only down about the monitor is if you're operating and using it as a VF then it's quite big and bulky to be hanging off the front of a cam when handheld.

I would guess it's early days for the Odyssey, the questions right now are more about what can be output physically by the camera. If Sony can get 4K 60fps out of it then i don't understand why the Odyssey couldn't get that. If the odyssey can get 2K 240fps sustained then the overhead/bandwidth for that cannot be far removed from 4k 60p.
Reading between the lines i get the impression that this is all quite new for CD as they only had it working a few weeks ago.
However frames rates are not that important to me. I want to see samples, resolution and dynamic range.
I'd guess though that taking a still with the 700 might show more about what the sensor can do without waiting for these devices. That's only just occurred to me
cheers

output of Sony FS700 is compressed..
+1It could be Sony placing a limit so as to not take away from their own solution.

Could be. But i do remember a sony product brief last year where the said that they saw the AXR solution as a rental option for 700 owners. So they could be looking at it like that. We don't have a price for that interface unit yet do we?

tvtechnology says that the price will be around 2000$... source: http://www.tvtechnology.com/article...elopment-of-k-raw-recording-interface-/216148
To price up the sony 4K solution then would be (and correct me if i'm wrong)
The frustrating thing is that to record that compressed raw signal out of the 700 to drives and the decompress and debayer in software afterwards really shouldn't be too difficult. You're talking about recording 3.5Gbps maximum. Whilst that might be on the edge of SSD performance you can certainly do that if Sony would allow it (which they obviously don't). However all these solutions seem to involve decompressing the signal, translating it and making it larger and then recording/compressing it...

There is no proof for that claim that Sony doesn't allow it. It's far more likely that Odyssey7Q doesn't have strong enough processor to handle the data
