The Rook Moves - a Shawn Nelson film

That is a nice location, you will have good production value, especially with the nice setup you have.

Thanks everyone! Yes, PSU park blocks. I got the go ahead from the film commission (did not need permit since it's a non-commercial shoot) and had a great time. Very scenic for sure.

The rig is indeed fun :). First time getting to use my new Ronfords. Jerry (my AC) is right. SO much better than using little carbon fibers.

sweet! and congrats Shawn
I've been wanting to do the same for a while now
compressed backgrounds, its ... almost voyueristic feel at that focal length

...went to 2.8? omg

Thanks! Forcing ourselves to use 300mm for EVERY shot was indeed a fun limitation. It indeed was voyeuristic, which plays into our short in a certain way. A nice by-product of this was that most of the bypassers didn't realize we were shooting a short and thus kept on walking through frame (both in front of talent and behind) which was AWESOME! Made it look like we had a 2nd AD and tons of extras. And since it's a 300mm, you can't tell who any of them are, so I had no need to go get waivers.

The 2.8 required 9 stops of light cutting! (.9ND + Circ Pola + 1.2ND) and then an IR blocker after it all. Jerry Turner to the rescue!

Were you directing? As a director I like to be close to my actors, I need to feel amongst the drama. However I'm usually shooting and directing
which forces my hand and I stay at under 100mm. How was it for you working at that distance from them?

I was directing. My DP, Christopher Alley, was operating. AJ Brooks loaned me his 9" Monitor (that he actually won here on DVXUser) and so I would watch that closely.

Awesome Shawn!

Great behind the scenes. Looking forward to it.

BTW, you should have fired that boom op., what a smartass!

Nice rig, I'm jealous. I like mood of the cast and crew in the bts, even though it looked cold everyone was in good spirits. I love a good cast and crew, if your not having a good time then whats the point.

Rendering!

So everyone on this piece worked really hard, but right now I am very thankful for Alan Chang and Justin Durban. Justin, I don't have to say too much about what he's done because you'll hear it very soon! Needless to say, I am very, very happy.

Alan did all the sound (except for score) and final mix and worked so hard on this project, I am so thankful. I got final mix at 05:39am after we'd discussed final changes at 11pm. Wow! This guy is awesome. I cannot imagine what this would be like if Alan hadn't stepped on board.

The kid was awesome in your BTS! I also must give a big high ^ to A.J. - he made me laugh, that was soooo funny!
