The Panasonic G1HD | GH-1 Video Mode : A Real Video Mode

Hi Matt,

I see what you mean. I guess we have to wait fot more GH1 footage and hope, there will be better clips than the typical flower-, jogger- and train-videos.

Your trailer looks great.

must say, i agree with Mattias thus far. I haven't seen much from the GH1 that rivals the D90 in terms of color and luminance. And it does lack that cinematic quality I covet. for me, these are the most compelling reasons behind choosing what I shoot with. And I can easily work within the limitations of the D90's slow read/reset, as I did on Model/Photographer, until I buy a Scarlet or two. :)

Mattias trailer looks very good indeed. He was able to get a great image out of his D90. I am sure he'll be able to do the same with the GH1.

The D300 is being heavily discounted and some stores are listing it as discontinued, the D400 can't be far away.

It's Matt, Jack and Zak vs Kholi, Hunter and Philip with me impaled on the fence

well, if you could see some of the PM's going back and forth, you'd know there was a good deal of fraternizing with the enemy on my part.

thanks, i think so too, but think about what people can do with the next generation? you may have noticed that my company name is too much too soon, the gh1 looks like too little too late. ;-)

Hi,

newly registered long-time lurker here. I've found this clip that has night scenes towards the end that look very promising. Haven't seen it posted here.

BTW Mattias, I'm first on the list for a GH-1 at the Panasonic Center here in Stockholm. You can come over and try it as soon as I've gotten my dirty little paws on it. :)

You echo my feelings closely -- even though the GH1 is probably the only DSLR for video I would buy right now, it doesn't have the cinematic quality I'd be wanting. Getting soooooo close.

I have to keep in mind that the Canon HV20 doesn't really have a cinematic quality without an adapter either. And so the GH1 is pretty amazing. I'm tempted...but I don't really see "cinema" images in the video I'm seeing from the camera.

what's interesting is why. the 5d takes the most beautiful pictures, no doubt, with the d90 second in my opinion, but neither have manual controls and 30p is useless, and the d90 uses too much compression. the gh1 has manual control, 24/25p and a much better codec than the d90, but the image just doesn't look as good to me. anybody agree or disagree?

I agree with you Matt. I see a lot of complaints about the D90 but from the footage I have seen (those shooters who actually know what they are doing) I still have yet to see anything from the other DSLRs that rival the cinematic colors and range of the D90.
