well,

i was pretty much spot on...
now i want a nice trade in offer, and dear sony: a test machine for my upcoming garmin cycling commercials...

There have been so much speculation that now that we know what these cameras are about I actually feel a bit let know. We knew it was going to be great now let's see if the price is great.

You shouldn't be down. Everyone is a winner here. Sony have come to the table with lots of options and the impact on other manufacturers will mean higher specs and lower prices coming our way soon, very soon. It's all good beer:-)

Yes....Sony asia pacific officially release photos of F5, F55, SxS Pro+, R5 Ext RAW recorder, F Battery Pack & Charger, etc.... you can log-in to FB and look for Sony asia pacific and you should be able to see all the photos.

Off subject I know, but I hope all of you that are on the Eastern Seaboard fared ok last night.....and that Ned's BMW is still safe and dry in the garage!

Can I use its EVF with my f3?

Sure these cameras look really good, no question, and I am going to have to fight the "got to upgrade" lust.

But this post from nomana underlines an interesting thought. What's going to happen to all those EVF and other accessory designers and manufacturers that made a killing on the weak points of the F3? Shoulder mount rigs, EVF's, external recorders and so on and so forth. We all know how much we've had to fiddle with our F3's to make them work in the way they really should have done at the outset.

But never mind, it does look as though Sony did in fact listen to all of us F3 owners and users and they've come up with two pretty damn good cameras.

This time though I'm not going to jump in right away, call my friends at Abel's and put down an order. My F3 still does pretty much everything I need from a camera of this type and when I need more I will rent it for the job. If and when I am ready to trade up the F3 will probably not worth selling, but it would make an excellent B camera to the F5 / F55. I still regret selling my EX1R when I bought the F3, I really should have kept it.
I am also happy to see that my Sony 18-254 zoom will be supported on the new cameras, thanks Sony....That I was worried about. I still like that lens, more and more in fact.

Did you guys notice GLOBAL SHUTTER! No more CMOS jello. Other than the Pani (sub HD rez) cameras I can't remember a big company offering a global shutter.

The wider color gamut (same gamut as F65) with 14 stops will be great. Depends on how the stops are being measured. Remember we've seen the F3 measured anywhere from 12.5 to 14 stops.

The 180 fps in 2K without line skipping or sensor windowing is just a bonus if you really like slo mo.

I also noticed that the new lens set has expanded. 20, 25, 35, 50, 85, and 135mm.

Prices, prices, prices?

This shows how companies like Zacuto, SmallHD...etc. don't really have anything proprietary or revolutionary. They didn't reinvent the wheel, they simply appropriated a technology from X and applied it to Y. What enabled those industries to flourish were the holes that were left by the big manufacturers. Now that big boys like Sony are turning the corner, these gap-filling companies (i.e. Zacuto, SmallHD) have to find new ways to be innovative.

Capitalism never guaranteed infinite success to any household name.

I'm curious as to how the hardware is structured to make such a Global Shutter work in such high resolutions and high frame rates. How much bandwidth and data lines are we talking about here? How much and how fast and how low latency does the caching architecture go? Mind blowing stuff!
