C200: The new Canon C200 with 4K

The mention that RAW is 15stops and Clog1/3 is 13stops is a little puzzling... Anyone know what that's about? If it's the C700/C300II sensor why would it only be 13stops? Is this just a Clog1/3 vs Clog2/RAW thing and standard?

I understand it as 15 stops in the RAW Cinema Light format and 13 stops in the 150 Mpbs .MP4 format.

Just more DR is available in the RAW with how they made this camera.

When XF-AVC is introduced, we'll know more about what's going on with that.

If I do buy it, I'll have Doc Emrick announce it - "DLD pulls one on Norbert. Norbert spins. Grabs air. The camera is out of reach. Pure Drifting tries to poke it away. Gets shouldered off by DLD, who also swears at him in Russian. Pure Drifting pulls out a dictionary. It's Bulgarian-to-English. No good. DLD scoooooooorrres."

C700 can do 4.5K Raw. I doubt C200 can.

Still, it's a major release. If it's around 7,000€, it should be closer to U$7,000.

You are hilarious. ;-)

Everything I am seeing is saying about $9,000.00 but that's converted from Euros, could be less for our market.

No XF-AVC until Q1 2018 is disappointing......

Interesting move Canon. I think this camera will be a market changer.

A) It depends on when it ships. If it's mid-fall and there are a lot of back orders, then it's a few month wait.

B) Ya.

Fantastic. Now could you voice that in a matter of 2 seconds? ha

Strikes me as strange that they have XF-AVC in the C300 MKII for years now, why will it not be ready for this camera for 6-9 months? It's not like it's some new engineering they aren't familiar with. A bit weird. But it will be like a nice New Years gift for C200 owners in Q1 2018. I bet the 100-150 Mbps .MP4 looks decent, probably good enough and if not, we can always buy a boatload of CFast 2.0 cards to shoot the RAW Light! Canon must hold stock in Sandisk and Lexar.

I think they said it's VAT included (a net amount), whereas in the US, everything is before sales tax.

Wake up Naso. He's nine hours late.

As usual, nobody gives a crap about audio except me and all of the sound mixers. This pup has AES/EBU DIGITAL FREAKING AUDIO INPUTS! How cool is that?

Also, nobody has breathed a peep about the SDI output, is it only 1080 capable or is it possible to pipe out at least UHD through SDI at this point?

My first thoughts.

What cfast card can do 1gbps and how much does it cost?
How much of this is going to be translated to the C300 II? The LongGOP codec would be a welcome addition and probably doable. The touch screen monitor might also be compatible.
This appears to fit a hole in the Canon line for a 4K event and interview camera combined with small RAW capable recorder for short bursts of product and demo shots or slow motion.

It'll take me half a minute but I won't screw up the East European names as badly as Mike does it (not bad with the German either).

I've already seen two quotes saying July.

If they beat Panasonic - and whatever else Sony might be able to conjure up by then, if anything - to the delivery, it'll be on back order into 2020 (and I don't mean Rec.2020 either).

As Pure Drifting mentioned, a SATA III interfaced CFast 2.0 cards currently run ~ $2.5/GB.

However, C200 also has a 5x compression, which (I presume) is around 600 Mbps and can be handled by the lower priced and performing cards.

Canon just set a pretty high bar for Panasonic. Friday should be interesting. Until then, this will be the only topic of conversation.

If you click on the C200 images at https://www.cinema5d.com/canon-eos-c200-internal-4k-raw-affordable-price/ you will get expanded high res images.

So the only option other than Raw is low bit Rate DSLR quality long GOP? That's lame, especially at $9K.

XF-AVC will be a free update in Q1 2018 and Canon is pretty good about delivering what they promise. But it is lame to not have it in place at introduction.

I am purchasing; the autofocus and touch screen capabilities alone put it above its competitors at the events/interview-level, not to mention the internal Raw, which although might not be of great use early on, just makes it all the more versatile and future proof. I think they have hit the ball out of the park with this one and if the pricing is as affordable as suggested, then they will sell bucket loads.

The C200 samples that are in the Pro AV YouTube clip I posted were shot in C-Log 3

True, but they didn't list what colour gamut was being used and that's what I havent found a lot of information on yet. C300ii lets you select 709/2020/P3/Cinema Gamut for Clog2/3; so far there's no mention of cinema gamut anywhere and I assume there's no Rec2020 support also.

I'm looking forward to some info on the XF-AVC support in 2018 and whether it's going to enable 10bit 4K recording in the same flavours as the C300ii or if it will only offer the 305mbps 8bit 422 XFAVC from the XC10/15, which I think may be the case to protect the C300ii to some degree as it's not really close to the end of its product cycle - so potentially, what could ultimately differentiate the C200 and C300ii could be bit depth and bit rate.

...It's just kind of strange how the C200 is currently either only 8bit 4K 100/150 mbps or 12bit Raw 4K up to 1 gpbs. Catering for very different markets there. Makes me wonder why the 4K MP4 codecs couldn't have made their way into the 1DXii/5DIV and made them bigger hits with their market.
