C200: The new Canon C200 with 4K

We will have a great dilemma between the new Panasonic and the C200. Looking to change my C100 later this year.

Eh, at 305 Mbps internal, it's about 110 GB/hr. The CFast 2.0 cards are currently going for about $1 per GB, with prices dropping at a "computer pace" - i.e., they used to run about $10/GB three years ago.

Looking at price histories for various cfast cards at camelcamelcamel, most prices have held fairly constant over that time. Not seeing much downward movement on cfast. Not like many were predicting.

CFast has dropped a good amount...I bought a Sandisk 128GB card for $1200 in 2014.

A newer and faster version is now around $350.

I just did a quick Google search and saw a bunch at about $1/GB.

As Norbert says above, in 2014, they were a lot higher. Retail was then about $10/GB. (He got a steal of a lifetime ... if lifetime was contained to 2014) Prorating it from then, the decline rate is more than 50% annually. Where this ends up can be debated but I'd anticipate it going lower than Limbaugh in a limbo contest.

I can't be bothered to verify right now, but I think you'll find the least expensive 256GB cards approved by Canon are closer to $2.50 to $3 per GB. That's over $1200 for 80 minutes of dual slot 4K recording. You can almost buy a C100 for that!

Cine Gear is the new NAB. Things are looking very interesting in the camera world.......

Erik, you've dropped a few hints about knowing something that we don't when it comes to new cameras at Cine Gear. Is it about Canon, Panasonic or some-other-brand-that-won't-be-named?

Not sure if you're serious...but Panasonic and Canon are releasing new cinema cameras at the event.

Long live P2!

I know. But I thought maybe he has knowledge of some other manufacturer releasing a new camera, too.

Geoff Boyle said that most camera manufaturers are shifting towards CineGear, and away from NAB. It makes sense, as NAB has become more and more saturated, and probably harder to get attention for your own big announcement if it's happening in the midst of so many other ones. But with the internet the trades shows make less and less sense for actual announcements, they're only relevant if you're busy hyping your camera up but not if you're close to release, where you might as well hold a private launch like Sony did for the FS7II.

The same thing could happen to Cine Gear overtime unless they don't sell out...but anyone who would like more $$$ ends up going that route.
