FEATURE: THE LOST CHILDREN - A FEATURE FILM by Mark Harris

New article at Filmmaker Mag on Test screenings:

Hey Mark - great list above, and I just read the article as well. Really admire your sincere wish to know the true opinions of your test audience(s). So refreshing to hear of someone (else!) who actually wants to know the truth about their art. In my experience most people say they do, but are too often completely crushed when they hear major negatives, leading others to avoid giving them. Your approach will likely ensure that you will get a good dose of genuine commentary. Good on ya...

On trick I've used in the past is to tell the reviewer(s) it's someone else's work - not yours. It's not always feasible of course (your real name's in the credits, etc.), but when it is, it usually works like a charm : )

It's on S. 9th btwn Marcy & Rodney, just over the BQE expwy on the west side in the south end of Williamsburg. I've walked by that place a hundred times and it wasn't until the other day i noticed that shape. you've hit something, because i'm starting to see it everywhere too. freaky.

Yeah I agree. I was approached by the mods to maybe take part in a new section of the board. And that's one thing I was going to propose, no names on the work to be critiqued.

Overall I am pretty objective about my own work. I usually know the goals of my own I had and which ones I hit, so I'm generally confident in what I've created. And I'm confident it's not just straight up incompetent. So I'm okay with people not liking things, or whatever.

As I mentioned on FaceBook - Godfrey's performance and the writing of that character's arc - haunting, real stuff.

This film is a fantastic example of "shut up and make your movie", i.e., outside of the box thinking getting maximum milage out of a dollar or making money irrelevant to the process. And, writing for one's resources, in this case - a great cast.

Several very big things coming down for the film. I cannot announce yet until they're made public, but very very good stuff coming down. Stuff that's inline with the plan and the result of all the hustle I've been putting on this year.

Also, now set to finish with some sound design and score. That will likely start in...July, I'd say.

More soon.

thanks so much for coming out Jack!!!

Ugh, I know I owe you an email, Matt. Sorry between stuff with the film, and software work, I have not had a minute to give actual consideration to the stuff we were talking about.

Hope things are all good and calm at home!!!!

Will try to get on it soon...

Also, I got the comment cards back from the LA screening. They said the turnout wasn't what they had hoped for, but the comments I got are extremely helpful. I'll do a follow-up post on the Filmmaker Mag site soon, and link it here.

But I'll say, the one thing the comments have done right off - both the good and the bad - is encourage me even more that there is an audience out there for this film. It's certainly not everyone. But I know it's out there. Much of the rest of this year will be devoted to identifying, targeting and connecting with that audience. Some of the exciting news I cannot yet share, is related to that.

All good Mark, I'm here when you need me.
I'm glad the screening went well and I'm bummed i missed it because i really want to see this ASAP!

Some really great mentors in that program, and some pretty strong and meaningful stories in the lab.

Good stuff, and hope it turns out the best for your project, Mark.

It's a really amazing opportunity to get some professional eyes and hands on the cut and get some ideas I would never have thought of.

this is one of the few ways to give yourself a leg up on festivals too. you're going to get the same foot in the door with fests that tom quinn and others have had. I look forward to getting sick of reading about you on indiewire. :) congratulations!
