GH4 The GH4 is here!

Unfortunately the 2nd link to the native clips doesn't go for me. Would love to get my hands on them clips!

*Edit* My post was incorrect. I had the page open from yesterday and hadn't refreshed. I can get to them now with the new link. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing the clips. I had a play with them on a 1080p timeline and they respond quite well to color correction and even sharpening. I am a bit concerned about the jello though. Seemed like it was appearing quite easily without much camera movement.

I notice there is a tremendous amount of jelly on the GH3 in ETC mode. If the GH4 is doing 4k from an ETC type crop, that might explain the jelly. Need someone to really put the little camera through its paces.

That said, I really can't wait for this thing.

This is a showstopper for me. Looks like a cell phone video with that much wobble. But I will wait for tests from owners until final judgement.

$1699 for the camera and $1999 for the interface unit. The camera price is fine, but the interface unit is way over priced.

Just downloaded and peeped the eyeball clip. No, it looks a lot cleaner pixel to pixel to me than the GH3 in ETC mode which is good. I get that they're more or less doing the same thing, but the chip just looks cleaner overall. Looks more like 'real 4k (okay 4kHD)" resolution than my old RED ONE.

It'll be $3300 bundled together. That's a crazy deal for anyone considering something like Canon's Cinema series (C1000 starts at $5k), and you get so much more.

Getting a full YAGH setup, with a 7Q and V-mount battery etc costs over $6000. Not that attractive a proposition.

agreed.

you forgot to add a 4k recorder in the mix.

Yes, I think the YAG pricing is an over-reach given it does not record anything and it is designed like a brick. It is just an output mechanism. The Q7 costs less and provides recording & monitoring. They should have teamed up with an external recorder company or made their own unit to record the good stuff internally. Here's to hoping for an AF-200 with 4:2:2 internal codecs!

Newb question; I'm not sure I understand the 96fps overcrank mode. Is it really recording 96fps @ 1080p at the same bitrate as let's say 24p, but for only a couple of seconds since it's hard on processing, or is it recording 96fps and you have to conform it in camera before it writes to the card? I'm asking because I use Twixtor and it would be alot simpler to have 96fps to work with than either being stuck with 4x slow motion, or with 1080/60p and loose those precious 36fps...

what you compare it to is irrelevant.
the brick is a $2000 paperweight without a 4k recorder.

A paperweight to you is a highly useful tool for those that need its functionality. A GH4 body without a lens could also be a paperweight. A lens without a camera is just a piece of metal/plastic and some glass and could also do the job of keeping papers from flying off of your desk. Depending on your needs, you either go for it or you don't. If you're savvy enough to need it, you've also have taken care of the recorder.

Not sure I understand your point.

It records 96fps to a 24/25/30p file without audio. So if you wanted to turn it into normal speed footage you'd have to increase speed in your NLE.

Had an email from BH saying the GH4 was available for pre-order this morning. I think someone pressed the button too early, just spoke with Customer Service. It is not 'yet' available for pre-order.
