The EOS 60D has been announced

I saw ability to adjust audio level... but on the canon page it doesn't brag up the quality much... just says "improved". Hopefully it's actually good.

I wonder when this thing will be available at say... sears or b&h?

Also... I can't find the recording limit thing anywhere... if they solved that potential issue I would have expected a bullet point... "unrestricted recording"... or can you still burn this cam up if you force continuous recording?

921k and 1000k screens from Canon are practically the same dpi for video but I agree the more the merrier.

The 5d is ..

(307,200 pixels/921,600 dots)

this says 1000k pixels

which is 3000K dots

Thats triple the resolution and up there with a small HD and way better than any other sub $1500 monitor

UNLESS IM READING IT WRONG - which I may be !

EDIT DP review and the press release ,says 1000 DOTS, (no better), keep the small HD :)

The original 5D1 is 300k dots, the 5D2 & 7D are 920k dots, the T2i and 60D are 1000k dots. There is little difference between 921k and 1000k but the 1000k is a step in the right direction for 16:9 and 3:2 content.

I agree - one of the links says - 1000k pixels (which I extrapolated to mean 3m dots) - that was not correct, its 1000 dots - roughly the same res as all the others

2) Wireless flash control (definitely WOULD have liked this one... use it all the time on nikon).

as far as i know, wireless flash control on the 7d only works when the onboard flash is also firing. don't imagine this would be any different. it kinda sucks when you don't want a direct flash. maybe i'm just doing it wrong

It's the same sensor and processor so I doubt recording time is changed at all. If you use SDXC cards you get up to 30mins I believe, since that's it hard limit and they're using exFAT.

Single Digic IV like the T2i, so the video quality should be exactly the same with the added benefit of Native ISOs

Might this cam have a correct full resolution HDMI live output? Even Sony NEX series have full rez live HDMI but only 7D from Canon has that functionality. Monitoring in 1080 is much-much more usefull than in 4:3 480p...

If you compare ALL the specs... not counting ergo, again, of course... but video focusing, etc?

It simply looks to be a bigger cam with several ergonomic improvements and conveniences... but little "real" improvements over the t2i.

If I didn't already have a T2i, I would get this instead for the native ISOs, better sound, and articulated screen. But it's not worth selling my T2i to upgrade.

If SDXC support allows for longer recording, I may sell my HF11 to get one, though.

The new audio features seem to be a big step forward.... has anyone confirmed the features (broadcast quality recording, external mic input, level control)?

Hmmm. I was hoping the 60d would have the still-photo features of the 50d and video to at least match the 550d. Unfortunately it looks like they've repositioned it in the line-up and it is no longer the enthusiast/pro-back-up the 50d was.

Hopefully the 50d will be on runout and I can pick one up cheap!

Interesting that they have added a 7x crop video mode (1:1 pixels, so should have no aliasing/moire).... only 640x480, but maybe a sign that they will add this feature to other cameras at 1080p (with a reduction in the amount of zoom, of course)

Benefits over the T2i and/or 7D:

-Flip out screen
-0.3EV ISO adjustments (aka in between ISOs)
-Live histogram during video/live view mode
-Top display LCD
-More buttons, dual wheels
-Larger Body if those who like that

This guy here, Shao... sums it up well for the t2i... if the 7D had a flip-out LCD and live histogram I think it would just be the sealed, metal version of the 60D. (with higher fps).

Yes, that's how it works, but it's how it works on the D70s that I'm currently upgrading... and it doesn't matter, it's a HUGE convenience for flash. When taking stills I often (50% of the time or more) hand-held the sb800 flash off to the side, or mounted on a stand... for dramatically improved lighting over "on-board" flash... The cam-flash does fire, but at a really low intensity... only to communicate the TTL information to the off-cam flash. Believe me, it's a pretty nice feature that can take your pictures to the next level. I accepted the loss of this function in comparison to the 7D, but it's a hard pill to swallow when that... and a few other things, are only a few hundred more.

In this aspect it's exactly like the t2i... nothing "added" to also add to other cams in the line-up... so unfortunately, no that probably hasn't changed.

On the previous page there's a whole back and forth discussion about the "improvements" in the LCD resolution... when, aside from the ability to flip-out and change the angle (yes a big deal) it's the same LCD as is already on the t2i.

Please... if anyone is about to say some impressive NEW thing the 60D does... just go to the canon page HERE and compare the 60D with the t2i and/or the 7D. I can't stand the hype-machine we create on these new cams... frankly, I even think the GH13 is/was over-hyped... I bought one and am enjoying it... but so many people are kidding themselves about the reality.

The 60D looks to be a great camera, and one I'd prefer over the t2i... but aside from various physical attributes related to convenience and ergonomics, it doesn't look like it will produce any different quality video or photos under the same conditions... the list of changes over the t2i, while impressive, is a pretty short list... and appears to be a quite obvious 7 or so key points.

It's not a "second generation" DSLR or whatever... that people are still anticipating... it's pretty much the camera it APPEARS to be... a nicely shaped cam with only a couple upgrades over the 7D for video in use, NO upgrades over the 7D for stills... several "practical use" improvements over the t2i for both stills and video... but there will most likely be zero difference in output, for video OR stills, on the same settings, in the same conditions... between t2i > 60D > 7D.

The t2i/550D also has a live histogram during live view mode, unfortunately it's off when you turn to record in movie mode, but that's OK you can easily guage before you star recording.

Inbetween ISOs is over-rated.

Video performances looks the same, awful jaggy 720P and the 1080 aliasing is the same!

I do like that flip out screen, however...
