It's a miracle I was able to finish this.... My main actor stepped out which put me in that position as well as nearly every other role with a few minor but important exceptions. My bro. did a great rewrite of my script adding some much needed (and appreciated) changes. My wife (begrudgingly) Helped with some camerawork involving movement that featured my character and did a great job! She offered a unique eye of perspective to the film. Last But far from least my daughter did an amazing job acting! I'm not just saying that because I am her dad.... Wait I guess I'm last and least.... Don't laugh, I've never acted before and I'm sure it shows, having no other option I had to step in and do my best!... I may not be too attentive to this thread, because I am seriously behind on school work trying to get this finished and uploaded on time. Hope you like it!

I gotta ask, cause we all wondered when watching, how the hell did you scare the crap out of that kid so bad, cause that was REAL crying. Did you pinch her or something? LOL... Seriously, she looked petrified, and I wonder if you just happened to film her in the middle of the night crying, or if you did something to make her cry so bad. If that's acting, get the kid into the business... seriously!

Your monster was definitely one of the scarier ones in the fests, without a doubt. Very creepy... and it actually had some screen time. You get major props for that!

What you can do to improve is work on the editing. I found some of your cuts a little awkward, especially at the beginning.

Good work overall though :)

I'm glad you chose to show the monster. The creepy hands from the closet, right before the reveal. Damn, man. That was epic.

Yeah the monster was quite good and the little girl was very believable when talking to the dad. As for her screaming/crying, well either give her an award, or someone call child services ...HA !

I agree with EditPhish; the editing seemed odd in the beginning during the dad/girl conversation. It just stood out (too much) like the two shots were filmed at very different times, then pieced together.

Where did everyone get all these good child actors? It's surprising how many children have been in the fest but even more surprising is how well they are doing. This is no exception. Great acting from the little girl. Nice monster. Seemed to be a weird vignette that cut off portions of the screen. Was that intentional? I also thought the monster was pretty gnarly! Good job.

I think a few J cuts would have solved the problem.. I liked the film even without them though.

I really enjoyed this short movie- the little girl in it was sooo believable!!!!! I thought the ending with the dad all scary and zooming out of the bedroom was a cool effect. Probably my favorite so far!!!

Just signed on dvxuser and got done watching your Monster Fest entry. I must say, I absolutely loved it. Very simple yet very gripping and super scary. To be honest, I usually don't even like monster in the closet type movies because they 1)never show the moster and usually do a poor job at building suspense and settle on glowing eyes or something in order to scare, or 2)they show the monster, it looks lame and everyone gets let down on the delivery. What I really liked about your flick is that you beautifully built suspense within the entire dialogue (the daddy/daughter talk was eerie and felt kinda surreal), that little girl was an unbelievably awesome young actress (How old is she anyway?), and the monster was truely evil (looked and sounded like something from the very depths of hell (Great job, not very easy to do)! Overall, Awesome! Keep it up, I really like your style. My only critique is that there wasn't more. Hopefully next time.

This definitely was in the creep factor for me. It was a good story, but I'm not sure it was entertaining throughout.

I know it's hard to work with child actors but she did fine.

Still, you had a creep factor so good job.

LOL Ok, first things first! I need to state that my daughter has not seen the film that she starred in. That being said the screaming crying scene played out like this behind the scenes.

I asked her to pretend she is crying and relayed the scene to her, she agreed... So I stood there in my street clothes on some makeshift stilts (cause let's face it this creature is tall) With one of the long finger gloves on one hand and the cam in the other. I proceeded to walk towards her and bending down I reached for her with the glove. What happened next made me feel kinda bad; but was terribly effective. She poured it on..
It sent chills up my spine as I was recording; which wasn't very long cause, like I said, I felt kinda bad. I reassured her it was me, and asked her what was wrong. She wanted a hug! A few moments later she was fine again and we finished some other shots.

I think the great thing about kids is that they are genuine and honest. This makes them coachable, and pliable for acting. I doubt all kids are this way, and I really had to calm her down and wait for her to tire to get the right mood. She is really happy and animated most of the time bouncing off the walls with her little sister. It makes me tired just watching them play!

I get really tired of the cliche "less is more" when it comes to monsters, maybe for awhile it was effective, and it still can be if you set it up right. It started a trend, and numerous copies of the formula have been circulating. I think there needs to be a re-imaging as the genre as a whole and focus on what really scares people. It's definitely the most challenging genre!

Thanks for all the comments, and encouragement it means a lot!
