Tamron 17-50 Nikon

You won't have control of iris if you get nikon mount version (no iris ring). When people use nikon lenses, they are talking about the old manual ones.

Spend the dough and spend extra to get the model that has VC. You need it for hand held. Buy cheap you buy twice.

Many if not all Prime lenses lack IS, IS is not needed for hand held on anything less than 100mm. All you need is a tripod, rig or even some study hands and great editing and you will be fine.

I am not saying that you must have IS, just that you can't add it to the lens later:) and it is nice to have (you can always turn it off).

If you don't want it, don't get it but you should at least know.

I run the 17-40F4L as my main lens and it doesn't have IS. I have a shoulder rig and a tripod though.
