Tamron 17-50 2.8 on GH1?

Tokina 11-16 and Tamron 17-50 are popular, but I'm waiting for the rumored 12-50mm 2.5-3.3 HD Power O.I.S. from Panasonic. It could take at least 6 months even if it becomes true. It's going to be expensive... $1200? $1500? Gawd who knows. But Tokina & Tamron & adapters are not cheap either.

I have a Pentax mount version of the Tamron 17-50mm, have I got any chance at all of using this on a GH1? With aperture control?!

Pentax-mount lenses that lack aperture rings can be used - in precisely the same way as the Nikon-mount lenses being discussed through most of this thread. Just make sure you get a (slightly more expensive) "DA" compatible Pentax-M4/3 adapter, because these come with an aperture-control ring. For example: http://cgi.ebay.com/Pentax-DA-AF-le...35835?pt=Lens_Accessories&hash=item4aa575b9db

Just to recap on cheap but good Nikon G adapters...

I see on ebay that Jinfinance has one and so does RainbowImaging. Both have adapters which control aperture. Which one is better? Rainbow is about half the pice of Jinfinance.

Yeah, I like to know too.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm trying to figure out what works best for my situation.

I have an EOS mount Tamron 17-55 2.8 (non VC). I understand that the Nikon mount ones are better suited for adapters because of aperture control. But I already have this one, and I'm keeping my Canon camera in addition to the m4/3rds GH.

Am I better off selling the EOS lens and buying a Nikon one, then getting adapters for both the GH and my Canon? It would be a shame to lose the automatic features I currently DO have on the Canon side. Or should I just keep the lens I have, get a cheap EOS to M4/3 adapter, and set the aperture on the Canon before removing it to place on the Panasonic?

Oh, on that topic- isn't it bad to remove the lens exposing the sensor while the camera is on? I've seen people say you can do this to set the aperture on an EOS lens, but I was always under the impression that was dangerous!

Ok, after asking in the Canon section about how this works, I now understand that if live view is off, using the DOF preview button under the lens release doesn't engage the sensor at all. In fact, all communication with the lens seems to be cut as long as I'm holding that button (light metering, etc), and the sensor is still shielded. So, I suppose there is no added risk to damaging the camera than there would be in swapping a lens in any other situation.

That being the case, will any dumb EOS adapter work? I've heard that some EF-S lenses don't work in the adapters designed for EF. This Tamron is the EF-S version, however I remember someone else saying that it only applied to official Canon EF-S lenses, and that third parties DO work with the adapter. Can anyone confirm that a standard EOS-to-M4/3 adapter will work?

Hello all
I recently ordered GH2 and I decided to use it for mostly video with my Nikon G 17-55 2.8 , as you know the lens is heavy (750g) so I just wondering is there possibility that lens put pressure on the camera lens mount when I hold the camera body only and is that likely to make the camera broken some how ? or not ? is there anything to be worry about ? thanks

I've heard the weight limit of the m43 mount is about 2 pounds (~900g) so you "should" be fine.
I've also heard the mount may flex under loads close to its max weight so be careful or use a rod system and support the lens that way.
