I dont know if this has been addressed yet but i couldn't find it if it has.

Every clip i record on my t2i using ML and an external microphone i get this huge audio spike at the beginning of the track which then quiets down at about 1-2 seconds into the clip.

Does anybody else experience this?
Any solutions or maybe i should just pre-roll a little bit more?

Thanks guy

I've had that happen and did pre-roll a bit longer because of that. Also started recording audio externally and using the cameras onboard audio for reference to help w/sync.

Just wanting to let you know that you're not alone in this regard, but cant offer any help on a resolution except to preroll a bit longer :)

Hey well as long as i am not alone it means there is nothing wrong with my camera. It may be just another one of those little things we have to work around when using a DSLR. c'est la vie

anyone else having an issue of monitoring the audio using magic lantern.. mine is very distorted...

User guide (PDF - it ships with ML), page 9, item 1 under "Known Issues"

• First second of recorded audio may be very loud.

It's also listed under the online help (hit INFO after you go into the ML screen).

Yes, you need to preroll an extra second if recording audio with Magic Lantern. As long as you are aware of this, you should be fine.

Monitoring audio sounds fine when set up correctly- if your headphones are sounding overblown, it may have to do with how you are amplifying it perhaps. I have a fiio headphone amp attached to the A/V cables used for audio monitoring, and the sound is very clean going to my Sony MDR-V600 headphones.
Either way, I don't think this would have anything to do with the initial audio spike bug that the OP is referring to.

I get the dreaded audio burst on my T2i, but not every time. I think it only occurs when I exit ML or turn the camera off, then start up again. Try leaving your camera turned on and with ML running during an entire shoot and see if you get relief. The best solution is to just count on tossing the first few seconds, as others have advised.

I join issue with you there. My view is entirely opposed to yours.

Can you elaborate?

Exactly.

It should also be noted that pre-roll of at least 5 seconds should be standard practice, as should post-roll. These heads and tails can be lifesavers in post-production.
