i agree with everyone who says compressor. It might take a bit longer but from my experience with the FCP log & transfer hack that it shortens my clips & freezes them while importing so I do the compressor route.

Just a question, but are you trying to L&C from the camera (card still inside) or from a card reader? I had the same issue until I used the card reader.

I tried...

Clicking the physical memory card
Clicking DCIM
Clicking 100CANON
Opening 100CANON and clicking

You've just click EOS_DIGITAL on devices then click "open"
if you point the path EOS_DIGITAL --> DCIM --> 100CANON don't work

Just use compressor. Convert to Pro Res. Walk away happy.
