T2i affordable shotgun mic

The Audio-Technica AT897 is an excellent microphone for its price, and you can find a used one for under $200.

If you want to take your chances, there are ebay shotgun mics from china that go from 50 to 100. I bought one, tested it beside the cheap AT shotgun (forget what model) and the china mic was "deeper" so we had to put a high pass filter on it in post to match the other mic.

The reason I bought it was it was $50 and I was working on a long project and we just never knew when we might need a 5th mic and didnt want to pay rental for something we might not use.

I have a zoom h4n, and while its great for big projects where you have access to nice shotgun mics, someone to roll sound, and someone to slate, i find its less than ideal for run and gun.

I think im going to try and get a rode video mic and use that on the hot shoe when i dont have a person to roll sound.

Im trying to decide if i want to keep the h4n or sell it?

Just bought a redhead dead cat for it to, lol.

I have the Rode VideoMic and love it. I have an XLR adapter for when I use it as a boom and then run the XLR cable to my BeachTek DXA-5D. For the price I believe the VideoMic cannot be beat.

I'd just buy anything that works for your price range.(or cheaper)
I've got a cheap Azden ($200?) hooked up to mine and it is a vast improvement over the onboard mic. But the noise still makes it unusable for any production type work (maybe OK for utube stuff)
Just buy the cheapest thing you can find because it really doesn't matter.

Rode Video Mic

Very affordable, very light, works great if your subjects are within 6 feet or less (for interviews or vocals).
