FEATURE: Survival - The Feature, based on our Timefest Entry...

Nice teaser trailer. Like the music.

You should use the Font/Title treatment you have in your banner for the end of the trailer.

On your website, I like how the Cast/Crew is the restroom graphic thing. But for some reason, sometimes when I look at the website, the synopsis comes up with scroll things next to it, and it's awkward to read.

Yeah, I made the trailer before I designed the site, so the graphics don't match :undecided
I guess I need to go back and change that.

You're not the first to notice the weird scroll thing. I assume you are using IE? It seems to work fine with chrome, safari, and firefox...

Yeah, I've only looked at it at work where we have IE.

I actually meant in your DVXuser signature banner, but I like the one on your site as well.

Status Update.

Status Update.

Cool! What's the status on this?

Good question!

Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up:

We have not secured our final budget yet. Partially because we have two different budgets that we are sending out to two different groups of investors. One is around $150K and that one we have most of the money for (coming soon) and will probably use kickstarter to raise the last bit. However, we also have a few investors still left to meet with who are interested in investing in the $2.5 Million range. Naturally, this would allow us to do a few different things like pay for some big names, and thus we are holding off until we exhaust our big money connections. If none of them bite, then we'll do it for the lower budget.

About 90% of our locations are secured. We are still negotiating the costs for a few of them. Until we have a final budget locked down we haven't approached Michael Wincott, who we hope to secure as The Survivalist (our villain). A third of the smaller budget is aimed for his salary. He will be offered much more in the case of the larger budget. I've never contacted an actor of his caliber before, and if I only get one shot at it, I don't want to mess it up. Any advice from those who have done this before would be greatly appreciated and, if nothing else, will earn you a "Special Thanks" in the credits :)

Also, we want to be able to afford to hire Philip Bloom as DP. He has already been approached, but until we have a finalized budget, it's hard to make him a fair offer. Since SURVIVAL will be shot almost exclusively on DSLRs, I can't imagine anyone else for the job.

After visiting our locations, it has been determined that August is the best time of year to film up in Humboldt County. Therefor it is our goal to get up there the last week of July to set things up and then shoot through the month of August. Three of those weeks will be at our Maple Creek location, the remainder will be on BLM land and a few privately owned locations. We only need our Survivalist for 5-7 days (depending on budget).

If anybody has connections with big money and can secure us a meeting that eventually leads to funding in the full $2.5 Million, we are offering a 10% finder's fee. That's $250K. If you want it, call up all of your big-time Hollywood producer friends.

So there you have it. Perfect locations, talent, and cast. No money. Yet. But all in God's time, and to His glory. I have no doubt that we will be able to shoot in August, I just don't know how much we will be spending.

Honestly, I've had contact with a few "names" and the thing I've noticed is the most important to them is the script. I wouldn't mention money until they're sold on the project.

Regarding your status, I'll be praying for you, as I know funding is the hardest part, for sure. Everything sounds exciting though!

Thanks brother! Your advice and prayers are much appreciated. I'll be doing some fine tuning of the screenplay next week with with Tristan and then, God-willing, we should be ready to approach our talent. Then it will be wait for the money and work on WestFest ;)

Anyone have experience writing business plans? I'm kind of at a loss here...

I have lots of information, but I'm not sure how to organize it all. This is for investors. Anybody know a good resource?

Taking short break from SURVIVAL related activities to help Tristan Carnahan shoot a documentary for Ride:Well Tour and Blood:Water Mission.

DVXuser thread for the documentary is here. Please follow the project and donate if you can. Blood Water partners with African communities to combat HIV/AIDS and provide clean drinking water. $1.00 provides one African with clean water for an entire year.

Cool stuff :) Looks like a worthy cause for sure!

It was amazing working with them. Great people with a true love in their hearts for those they are trying to help in Africa. It was well worth the sunburns in San Diego to help them achieve their goals :)

Script is registered with the WGA. So I guess you could say that we are pretty happy with the final (first) draft. It is being read by People With Money, with the idea that they will give us some.

Looks like some excellent news coming in the budget department :) I will keep you all informed, but this is huge. Contracts are in the works and we will have more info late this week / early next.

God is good
