FEATURE: Survival - The Feature, based on our Timefest Entry...

My first conference call with the investors is today. Please pray for us. A lot rides on this conversation and I'm not sure what to expect. I don't want to disclose how much rides on it yet, but soon, patient readers. Soon :)

We are talking some serious money. Not sure what I'm allowed to say yet, since nothing has been signed, but this is more than we dreamed of. I will keep you posted as much as possible as we move on. We will have preliminary paperwork by Monday and ongoing meetings and more paperwork over the next few weeks.

This is the real deal, and I can't take any credit for it. God just dropped the right people in our path who are very excited about the market potential of our little DVX entry turned feature film.

Much much more to come :) Thanks for reading! This is going to be very educational for all of us, I think.

Well, we have a very experienced group of people who are helping us make this a reality. This is going to be a "for real" movie.

I'm sorry I haven't been posting more, but things are very much in the "let's get things on paper" stage. Companies being formed, plans being planned, European theatrical release being discussed (apparently they are more receptive to indie films, so if it does well there we might have a domestic release as well)... Doing things the Hollywood way is all about risk mitigation and ROI, it would seem. I'm not complaining, but it is time consuming. That said, they say we are looking at starting principal photography in September.

The budget is not locked down yet because we are still negotiating our main location. Though I will say this: it was much easier to get the big budget than it was to get the small budget -through no fault of our own :)

I wish I could tell everyone how to get a budget for your film, but in all actuality, in our case it just came down to prayer. We did our part, but left the rest to God, and when He wants it to happen it will. We have all worked very hard on this, but when you have Hollywood types pursuing money (over six digits) for a screenplay that is only 59 pages long, I think there is nowhere to turn to for explanations but to God Himself.

And so we give God the thanks and glory.

But, just to get this clear: Survival is not what you would call a "Christian" film. There is violence, cursing, etc. so don't look for it in the "family" section.

Action plans on Monday, Lawyers :Drogar-Shock(DBG): later next week. The first $100K should be available soon to kick things into warp drive.

Producers are talking 30-45 days before we can truly start the production, but that's cool. More time for re-writes :)

Lawyers are expensive. But apparently very necessary for investors to take you seriously.

I don't get it, can't you just deposit $2,000,000 in my bank account and trust me to use it wisely? :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

Congrats! Oh...you deposit the money into MY account...I will use it wisely for sure...... *Cough* "Red One Package"......hehe

Actually, the co-producers that will be brought onboard just happen to have some sort of RED package at their disposal :) Still might have DSLRs for much of it (if I have my way). I would love to hire Philip Bloom as DP and shoot entirely on DSLRs, but the investors might insist on RED. Not a deal-breaker either way, but this a case where DSLRs would really fit the story and shooting style -in my opinion.

Of course, all of that will be discussed in the coming weeks -as well as casting. They want a bankable cast. We want an unknown as the lead with all the supporting roles played by big names. We'll see who wins that one ;) What are your thoughts?

Be sure that your sound has enough attention...... The attention that it needs.

Maybe 2 boomoperators
sound mixer (so 3 soundpeople)

multitrack sound recorder

good wireless...

Wirelless with good lavs (DPA, sanken)

Do a location visit with the soundguy. (the "head of sound")

Don't be afraid of ADR, but the most important is having good set sound.

Totally. Good sound is going to be a VERY key element. There will be plenty of budget set aside for sound :)

Cool, don't forget to pay yourself. It might be the only money you see on this, no matter what the budget.

I'm still available to help with sound post production :-Laugh(DBG)-1:Drogar-Dum(DBG):

I appreciate it. I want to involve as many of you guys as I can, but I don't know yet how much we will be able to. I don't want to lead anyone on. We are bringing on people who are established in Hollywood, and they have certain people that they want involved as well.

There will be names in the lead roles, and they will be names you have heard of. There may be certain key positions that they will also have people for. Much of that is up in the air at this point.

We will, God-willing, be meeting with one of the major producers over the weekend to discuss, in much more detail, the project and where we each see it going.
