FEATURE: Stricken the Feature - A Matt Sconce Film

But pictures would give everything away... Mwa Ha Ha! I'll see if my dad is wanting to post pics. I know his camera stopped working, which is why there are no in progress shots.

Yeah, I tried to take pics of each step like I did with the HyperCrane, but my CCD on the camera has taken a dump. It smears all of the photos like someone pulled the image across the screen. I checked shutter and iris and nothing is wrong.

This device is pretty cool and destroys others I have seen on the market for versatility, ease of use and comfort. It is really marketable... but do I have the time to market it? Dunno.

Dropped by for a quick micro pick up shot. She was beautiful and wonderful as always! What a nice person, and a TREMENDOUS TALENT.

After that shot, Matt and I had fun playing in the street... At night... Watching out for cars... While I bit a light. :kali:

Another funny Stricken pickup shot story:

We were out at night filming a pickup shot a couple nights ago (Just my Dad and I on a dark unlit street in Fresno). We had the HVX200 with us and a prop from the movie. We were focusing our attention on the storm drain we were busy setting up to film, when a 20+ ish year old guy in baggy white clothing walked out of the darkness. He asked us if we knew the way to a certain restaurant. He had one hand under his shirt and seemed to have something large concealed under there. I had a bad feeling...

Some back story: My dad and I are both Black Belts and I have trained how to fight with various weapons since 2nd grade. My training has been with the staff, knives, throwing knives, chain whips, firearms and katanas (samurai swords). We are not new to dangerous situations and are trained to maintain a cool composure until the threat manifests. When it does, we can unleash doom but we always attempt to think our way out of a situation first. A bully or mugger has three weapons he is relying on. 1: Fear, 2: Surprise, and 3: Preparation. If you take those away, you then control them and the situation changes rapidly.

:Drogar-Evil(DBG):Okay back to the story...

The would be Mugger angled himself so he had my dad and I both in front of him. He seemed poised, like someone trying to decide when to act. I realized what he was doing and proceeded to angle myself to thwart his tools. :Drogar-Evil(DBG):

I am 6'3" and was in a large leather coat in the unlit darkness. I moved myself behind the man until he could not see both my dad and I at the same time. Everytime he attempted to reposition himself to see us both, I moved again, keeping him at a disadvantage. Now he could not surprise us because one of us would be behind him.

Secondly, when he turned his eyes to me, I slid my hand purposely into my right coat pocket as I maintained eye contact. He noted the move and interpreted it the way I intended. I gave him the notion I had a weapon in my pocket. I could be bluffing but he would have to risk attacking two large people in the darkness who may be armed. This took away the tool of Fear because we were not afraid and seemed to have guessed his intentions.

Lastly, preparation was in our court as well because we have trained through scenarios like this our entire lives. After a moment of sizing the situation up, he walked off into the darkness. (Note to future muggers...wearing bright white clothing when attempting to sneak up on people in the darkness is not so effective)

Situation diffused, both the camera and us safe. We then proceeded to film the pickup shot.

So there you have it. The story of the almost mugging. I think he was really just a jealous filmmaker who desperately wanted to go HD and had a taste for P2 cards...:cheesy:

Happy ending, but still a scary story. Especially for those of us not so prepared for such things as you and your dad are. Nice work ending it without incident, and hats off to both of you on the training.

As we would have pummeled him... It is actually a story of a 'potential mugging attempt'. I was so busy getting power and water into position I really didn't notice anything... except that he walked up, was caucasian of hispanic decent, had a loose white beanie on his head. had handsome balanced features, was around 185lbs, was 5'10", wore a white zip up jacket with a logo in silver all over the heart side, had on dark sagging moderately tight blue jeans, had on white Jordan basketball shoes that were not completely laced... :)

Great job Matt, most people are too trusting and oblivious to their surroundings to notice a situation like that until its too late. The story you just told is exactly why I carry my firearm at all times when shooting (BTW I have a conceal carry license), being trained in tactical warfare is a bonus also!

Glad to hear that both of you are safe, including the equips. People these days...

Had a situation similar to this about 3 months ago, but no black belts or whatnot. Just the license for concealed fireams.

"...we can unleash doom" - Matt, you are sounding very sexy 'bout now...

Hehe...."Unleashed Doom=:nads:"

There are some changes in the post team for Stricken that will be possibly extending our post time a bit. We are still plodding away and I am still heavy into VFX about 5-8 hours a day as well as my 8 hour job and my part time job. Little by little it is happening!

You've got an eight hour job, a part time job, a wife and baby, and you're working on Stricken all at the same time?! Matt, you're my new hero!

Hey matt, sounds like things are shaping up, just watched your titles, looking nice, dont know if your the animator, I know Its only roughbut thought id give a bit of input, I often script the wiggle into the focus, camera moves, and lighting when creating moody titles, its a really quick and easy way to make things look more organic. also tick the motion blur box on your type,

looking foward to seeing your finished film.

best of luck

I feel you. Same thing here...we're just beginning the real edit though so we're far behind you (though admittedly not too many effects shots for us) but cheering you on from our edit room and can't wait to see the final product.

Keep bangin',

Martin

I appreciate the cheers Martin, sometimes it gets lonely in the post process of a movie. I am getting closer to being halfway done with the wire removal...:zombie_smiley:

That's good news on the new Sound Designer, Matt. I look forward to helping you with the wires. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I hope to have time to work on the Aftershock Bodycam 'Omnipocam' attachment this weekend.

I am working on our new editing studio in the loft today. It should offer two stations for editing and have a view of the Sierra too! There is snow out the window right now. Yay! :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

Ah... Editing stations complete... Storm outside... Andy Williams on the radio singing 'O Holy Night'... Life is goooooooood! :2vrolijk_08::2vrolijk_08::2vrolijk_08:
