FEATURE: Stricken the Feature - A Matt Sconce Film

After a 10 hour wire removal session, I just took a break. Whew! 2/3 of the way done with the main wire removal scene. Tired though...very very tired.

Glad to hear things are coming along on your flick. Oh, I meant to ask, ever been in a real fight? I trained for 14 years and got to see what actually works by being lucky enough to have worked catching shoplifters for almost two years. It was a real thrill. I learned most fights do go to the ground, so MMA style is good to know ( I was a kenpo guy, but had done some mma on the side). Glad you guys were able to avoid the confrontation though.

Yeah. I am a former Deputy Sheriff and still in the military reserve (O-4). Matt took second in the San Diego Grand National all Black Belt sparring championships. He can fight well, and is very deceptive. The best fight is the one you don't have to fight, isn't it? :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

He was really tired today when I saw him. He is really beating up the wire removal project. It is really looking good.

Thanks for the cosmic energy ted, I definitely need it. I am still limping along although I have had a horrible headache for the last three days. :Drogar-Sick(DBG):

On the fighting front, I have diffused MANY situations before they escalated into physical confrontations, but some did get physical. I ended the ones that became physical with one timed move (The first was when a guy tried to tackle me into some gravel when I was talking and walking with another person. I noticed the attempt and he ended up face-planting in the gravel. The next guy tried to hit me and I caught his wrist, then staring him in the eyes, squeezed his wrist, inflicting pain intimidation and no damage as I told him to walk away. Another guy heard I was a black belt, and when walking by me, tried to sucker punch me in the face. I blocked the punch with a really hard forearm strike his arm. He cradled his arm in a "Why did you do that" expression..."Um because you were punching me in the face?" The last guy tried to attack me to show of to his buddies and I dropped him with a spearhand to the xyphoid process. Knocks the wind out of them and gives them a moment of rethinking or time for you to decide your next move.

I will not train in a style unless I trust it to save my life. I do not do it for the art as much as the functionality. I recently trained in a pretty brutal style called Shou Shu (Moore's Karate). They teach sequences of motion instead of single techniques. It is meant to inflict as much damage on an opponent as possible within the shortest amount of time. For example, one of the first moves they teach you is for someone initiating an attack in your face. You wait until they are screaming an obscenity that involves "Mother...* then attack. The first move makes them bite their tongue off, the second takes their air away, the next break their ribs and then their sternum. These all happen in about a second using your centerline shifting for power. Definitely made to save your life. A brown belt woman, in the style, got mugged in New York. She was a petite college girl. She got dragged into an alleyway at night by a would be rapist/mugger. She knocked him unconscious by elbowing him repeatedly in the head, then called police.

MMA is good for one on one situations and all people should know how to fight on the ground, but you better be able to inflict a LOT of damage on your feet rapidly if you are fighting more than one guy and if they have weapons. I don't fight fair and I don't even believe in the idea of a fair fight. If I fight, it will be because I am in danger physically and I have one rule, to make it home to my family. I don't ever want to fight, I would much rather diffuse and walk away.

And lastly, have any of you heard of the Shou Shu concept "The switch" If you haven't I suggest getting into a class. It is amazing the power you unleash. Put it this way, the switch is employed when people do things like lift cars off their children etc. Shou Shu trains you to access the adrenaline at will. Cool stuff. :love4:

Anyway...back to work.:badputer:

Very cool. I'm not familiar with Shou Shu, but I spent some time in Krav Maga, which was developed for the Israesli (sp?) army and based on instinct and damage.

Keep on truckin'!

Wire removal again of course. Just plodding along. Watched Deadline today with Brittany Murphy in it while editing. Great Music and Sound Design!

So unexpected. Such a shock. I was reading that authorities are saying natural causes so far. It makes you realize we are only here for a short time and we should leave a 'trail of joy' behind our short lives.

There may be more to the story, sadly. Evidently she had become extremely underweight recently, and looked quite unwell.

I don't like what I've been reading about her 'husband' Simon Monjack...especially what the director of "Factory Girl" said about him...Mr. Hickenlooper.
Google it and see.

Whew! With us moving an hour north things have been crazy, add Christmas to that and the release of my new magic trick, an almost two year old daughter, two jobs and the post production of a feature film and life has been non-stop...of course I would not have it any other way.

Just released SPIN my new magic trick. I am banking on it to raise the final leg of money needed to finsh the post for Stricken. Here is the youtube link. So far reviews have rocked so I am happy and confident in the stricken finishing fund. Onward to Stricken glory!

The BUNKER LIVES!

The BUNKER LIVES!

Matt and I finished completing the BUNKER, our two station editing studio. We are spooling up "The Terminator" (Our lovable beast of a supercomputer) as I speak and all is ready for editing wonder and bliss.

We will be finishing wire removal and moving on to other VFX madness. HOORAY!:love4:

Hoorah! I just completed all the wire removal from the biggest scene. Man, tedious is putting it mildly. On to masking the scene. We have only one more wire removal to go and we will be done removing wires. It was wonderful using 4K RED camera footage for the VFX.

On the creative front, when you look at scenes frame by frame you start to notice things like subtle facial feature changes and even veins popping and disappearing on actors and actresses' faces.

I have to say, I am a huge fan of David Fine. As I watched him frame by frame for hours and hours, he has an amazing ability to act with his whole body where it compliments his facial features. He is truly an actor's actor. Very impressive!

Also, After Effects CC wire removal tool is GREAT!

Onward, ever onward... Never settling. :kali:

HUGE update:

Brad has sent me the first 60 minutes of the movie's dialogue editing and it is sounding great! Kunal, at Black Box Entertainment should be starting a month and a half of sound design goodness at this moment. VFX are moving along and we are slowly creeping toward the finish line! -Matt

Doesn't sound like it going slow. Keep it up!

I have the say, Brad's work was really top quality. Sound is distinct, and will dialogue will rock. More masking...

Thanks, Matt and Gary. I can't take all the credit, though - the production sound was pretty clear for the most part. I just went through everything and got rid of anything that took away from the main focus, which is the dialog.

About 30 minutes more of the film to edit!
