Stow Lake - SF Bay Area

Hello All,

I've been hovering for quite some time on dvxuser and finally decided to make a go of putting a short together. This is a short piece called Stow Lake. It's kinda based on a urban legend we have here in San Francisco Golden Gate park.

I have a script if any one in the bay is interested in helping. I haven't really done any production so I wanna get my hands dirty. Still need some actors but location is pretty much set. I've taken one production and final cut class at a cc nearby but thats about it.

Also welcome any feedback as this will be my first production.

Not sure what I would need in terms of equipment or gear, but I have the following

dvx100b
generator 1000W
lav/shot gun mic
low lying fog machine
monopod

As most of the shooting is done inside a car, was hoping to get some feedback as to how to make that work. Lighting etc.

Also contemplating shooting this first person handheld point of view (blair witch) but don't want to sacrifice the quality or want to make people feel like throwing up. So if there are any experienced people who can give me some direction, would much appreciate it.

If you plan on doing it Blair Witch style, then you are doing a "found footage" style movie? To reduce camera shake and audience complaints, shoot at a wide angle. That way you'll get all the action on camera and it won't be overly shakey. The more you zoom in, the more shakey the camera will be. Good luck!

And to answer your question.

Yes, they are shutting down the boathouse. That's why I'm hoping to do a shoot there before they turn it into a pf changs or something.

How ironic... I was just at Stow Lake yesterday gathering ambiences.. I have about 40 minutes worth of great stuff. Had 3 mics going. Left, Center, Right. Alan probably doesn't have to record room tone ;)

Cool. Looks like it's gonna be a fun project. Rehearsals are starting tomorrow. After a vigorous day of casting and whittling down our selection.

Hi Pete Ryan and Noel Thanks for the help and support.

We are going to be running some rehearsals with the first two actors in the outer sunset tomorrow starting 5pm if any of you want to drop by.

Probably gonna run another set of rehearsals Wed/Thursday/Friday before our shoot on Sat. Please let me know if there are any questions /suggestions.

Alright, so I received the first rough cut of the film last night and after watching this I'm extremely happy with the way it turned out.
