FEATURE: STEP OFF (was "Battle") - Narrative Feature

Before Branding

Before Branding

Before branding, you had Tribe. Just about every hip hop head knows what the striped paint on the models mean and they can associate the stick figures with the group. Hopefully this gets a wide distro. It has enough controversy to make headway toward being a classic.

I get quoted and Beat Makers and Step Off mentioned (despite an erroneous credit attributed to me as director...I'm writer and producer for both movies)...article about the new Tribe Called Quest Documentary.

It opened STRONG on 4 screens last week and will widen a bit Next week. I know of 2 theaters in ATL that will carry it, so I don't think it'll be thousands of screens but perhaps hundreds which is pretty good for a Sony Pictures Classics film.

Congrats Martay...you deserve all the success...

Thanks Stan, you as well, congratulations on your nominations at AOF this year.

Getting reports that folks have seen "Step Off" on television in the Pacific!

Pretty cool, unless it's on television in a territory we haven't made deals for yet :)

I'm guessing it's Guam but haven't gotten confirmation just yet.

Wish us luck as we're heavily engaged in foreign rights discussions right now.

The rest of the world needs to see it, right?

That's good news. I see that it's still in Redbox as of last Monday.

Did you see the Tribe doc already? I hope that we get it in Houston. Tieuel

I can't believe they're not playing in Houston yet.

Yes, I did see it. It's good. Especially if you're a huge Tribe fan which I certainly am.

This is crazy! I kept hinting at some press that was forthcoming but I TOTALLY missed it myself!

PASTE Magazine did an interview with me and they also asked myself, the other producers and our director to weigh in on the greatest Hip-Hop beats EVER.

How I missed this until now is beyond me.

Check 'em out!

Oh, and for good measure, a couple weeks later they ran my guest column on the Tribe Called Quest Documentary...

I guess my head has just be down into our foreign situation and prepping for our next feature blackhats that I'll start a thread for soon.

Well, yet another change, the film will roll out with our original poster but it has been modified and re-titled BEAT BATTLE...

Tomcat Films will be our overseas representative and they'll be at the AFM this week with it. http://tomcatfilmsllc.com/

They've got a modified trailer up, based on our original Battle trailer.

So, wish us luck, hope that lots of foreign territories will see the value in BEAT BATTLE :)

Definitely. The foreign had some new twists to be considered.

Heard some positive feedback about the AFM...heard that it was a lot better overall for everyone...so that's a good sign for us indies.

I'll keep everybody posted on progress.
