FS7: Sony rumored to release new FS7

So would Sony really release the FS7 II (if it is indeed a FS7 II) with only minor updates?

I understand how SLRs and mirrorless cameras may receive small changes, but this is the modern day best-selling flagship for Sony, so wouldn't one expect a bunch of new features?...especially for a camera close to $10,000?

It's certainly something they've done in the past with their current most popular cameras.

Eg FS700/FS700R, NX5/NX5R (not to be confused with the NEX-5 still camera), EX1/EX1R, and even going back to the PD-150/PD-170. Most of those were best sellers and flagships in the $5,000-10,000 low-end pro segment.

I hear you...I would like to think it's a different time and the last 1-2 years have been crazy with technology, and that people's expectations are so high that Sony wouldn't produce a FS7 II with minor changes, but I guess history can and does/may repeat itself.

All Sony has to do to be taken seriously in the big leagues is to make the color science on par with Alexa and Red, which for Sony should not be difficult at all given their resources.

I personally get great results with a little tweak of the Blue Channel, but if they made a very filmic picture profile, Sony would kill the market as their hardware is insane.

I'm not sure Sony's colour science is lacking. I saw a comparison between an F55 and an F65 and I couldn't tell the difference and no one disses the F65 wrt Alexa and RED.

With low enough compression and high enough bit depth the image can be taken anywhere which is the real limiting factor for us FS7 owners.

Sony will never gain traction in the top end until they make their cameras easier to use. Their UIs need a complete overhaul to make them as intuitive as an Arri, or as 'all the controls a touch away' as a Red.

I don't think that's too far off now. The new quick menus on the F5(5) completely revolutionised those cameras operationally. If Sony learn from that lesson and build that level of intuitive operation into their next pro cameras from the ground up, they'll really have something.

Would love it but they are still very much an engineering company whose professional camera department is responsible for less than 1% of its turnover.

It's the reason why they tend to be so slow to react and why the FS7 launch was such a happy surprise.

I spoke with my dealer and put the pre-order of the 18-110 on "hold" until Sony releases specs. Maybe a FS7ii lens set could be more interesting

If the FS7 II did lack any new groundbreaking specs, then I would love to see a different body with a side touchscreen interface and a built-in viewfinder.

I would rather Sony just brought out a box with a brain and a flexible mount at a price point. I'll add my own peripheries. I don't trust Sony to put out high quality ergonomics and viewfinders. Arri can do it Sony can'tor won't. That's how I work with the fs7 now.

I'd take a box too...but super small and still with a touchscreen on the side to easily and quickly change the most important settings.

There's a massive thing stopping them. Sony being Sony.

Their imagine division, now sort of/kind of spun off but still fully owned by the HQ, has been on a tear over the last three years. The UI/workflow has been their weakest link but they've been making strides.
