FS7: Sony rumored to release new FS7

nov announcement does not mean 2016 shipping....
as much as i would love to see a "FS9" with a new sensor, a slightly improved FS7II seems more likely....
vari ND, IBIS would be amazing...
i don't really see the FS7 loosing a lot of value because of this.....

For me personally, I would love to see some sort of compressed RAW inside the camera without the XDCA module. Lay a new foundation for the next F5/F55 updates. If no compressed RAW, hopefully a bump to a higher XAVC-I 480 Class at the minimum. Also would love to see some sort of IBIS built in like the A7RII has, to help with run n gun situations.

I don't think will see a full-frame camcorder yet, nor do I think I want one right now. If this is a slight upgrade, we might see a resolution bump to 6K but I am pretty happy with 4K right now. Maybe more dynamic range / HDR options?

I am at a crossroads right now because I have seriously considered the Varicam LT as of late and considered moving over to that next year. This new FS7 could be the answer to make or break my Varicam LT interest. Time is on my side and I am in no rush going into my off months to purchase a new camera now.

It seems a bit early to have a replacement for the FS7, unless it is just an R-update with a few firmware tweaks or a slightly re-designed sensor.

Lots of people here are saying they would like it to be smaller but personally, if a totally new camera is coming, I'd like it to be a bit bigger. Include all the features of the XDCA, a sliding shoulder pad, VCT tripod mount, rod mounts a la Alexa - basically a bigger, redesigned body that makes it ideal for run-n-gun doc work straight out-of-the-box.

Two years is a long product cycle at this point in time. Also, the price gap between FS-7 and C300 MKII is down to $3,500 from the previous $8,000, making a lot of one-man-bands lean toward the AF enabled Canon. Plus, there's (admittedly higher priced) Varicam LT and two Red models. And, there's a lot of tech that has already appeared in the consumer tier Sony cameras that could be very useful for the low-end pro models too.

Hi guys,got news for you..
I wrote an email to my Sony dealer/supplier in order to have information about the new Sony FS7 and eventually asking to cancel my order for the Sony FS7 and wait for the new one!
To my surprise,Sony confirmed to the dealer that a new model is to be announced in late November! it will be FS7 style and sensor, and for now they call it T3:huh: and they (Sony Italy/EU) don't even know name or price for now, and sadly to me it will begin shipping in next year!
My Sony dealer was so kind and honest and he cancelled the order for the FS7. I'll wait and see what will be announced soon and then make my decision. It could be a new camera with a higher price tag than what i could spend for a Sony FS7.
For now we know for sure that there will be a new model announcement in November, let's cross fingers and hope it's not going to be too pricey!

Better lowlight A7s style
Better codecs
MUCH better image quality in slow motion
Faster slowmotion fps

These four things may make me upgrade. But not just one of them, it would probably have to be at least three to make me sell and upgrade.

It's funny because I just arrived to the fs7 club coming from a A7s + shogun. The sensitivity, of course is a big plus but I never went past 12800 iso on the A7s. The codec is just too fragile. 25600, depending on the shot, had to go on neat video and the results can be disappointing, even tweaking it hard (just the chroma noise).

With the FS7 with the speedbooster, I can have my luts at 8000 iso on cine EI with minimum noise and easly cleanable in post. The codec is really good compared to the A7s. But a few extra stops wouldn't hurt.

The thing I miss is 120fps in 4K but I can live without it. A better codec than the XAVC-i? ummm...

I expect to see a new sensor first on the F5/F55 line before it hits the Fs7 market. A FS7ii needs to be a lot better to persuade people to make the switch...

Yeah, like less compression and bigger files, more info, more for post. Some have even asked for raw in this thread.

I cant film in moonlight with my FS7. I would really like to do that :-) Need ISO 50.000 - 80.000 to do so. Imagine the XAVC-I 10 bit 422 codec with the a7s performance!

I expect a new camera to be a hybrid FS5/7 e.i. an FS7 with in a smaller body with the variND etc and nothing to really make an FS7 owner raid the piggy bank for.

I'm far more likely to replace the FS7 with whatever Sony replaces the F5 with as I expect the F55/5 level cameras will get the big upgrade first and make it a worthwhile upgrade.

The FS7 really doesn't need better low light performance. Its fine and easily on a par with more expensive alternatives. Also happy with the size/weight.

Higher bitrates, Sony's updated menus, stronger lens mount, MI shoe possible without top handle, more programmable buttons, OCN internally would all be very nice.

Yeah moonlight scenario is the hardcore situation for any camera except the A7s. But for that on a FS7ii it would probably need large photosites on a big sensor like the A7s. Of course they can upgrade that tech on a S35 sensor. It's just a lot of money on R&D, a lot... lol

That's why I think a new redesign sensor wil probably come first on the cinema line and then everything else. Probably a new slog4 to accomodate the new base iso. but I could be wrong.

I still think a new FS7 will appear with minor tweaks, perhaps 1 extra stop sensitivity, Vari ND and better slow motion options on a improved (FS5) form factor (that alone is a huge plus for gimbal stuff)

FS7 is a beast of a camera for its price and with that amira lut (bert), man I'm not complaining at all... lol

The next level would be 120fps at 4k and 200fps at 2k continuous without artifacts, but that'll take a while for Sony to do for the FS-line. If they do make an updated FS7R it might have things internal Prores/better S&Q/LUT-management/vari-ND and such things the FS7 probably can't do due to the hardware implemented. But it make little sense to me to do it now when the FS7 still sells well.

It's more likely that Sony will make a higher end version or something smaller than the FS5. Or it could be the A7SIII!

Well, I'm ready for an upgrade, my FS7 is knackered. So, Sony, I'd like, 4k @ 240fps, proper white balance in cine EI (don't care what Alister Chapman says), higher bit rates, internal RAW, mLUTs that work in all modes, no custom mode (bin it, it's s*%t), IBIS, and a viewfinder that doesn't steam up. Oh, and I'd like it for half the price of the current model. If it could beatify the ugly and end all wars that would be good too. Thanks.

I like to see Sony offer SSD drive instead of the XQD card. Supposedly XQD is more reliable, but sheesh what is the secret to remove the XQD card?

Could be wrong but I think it will essentially be the same camera bundled with the new lens as a kit with some minor tweaks to the existing body - I am sure we will see a better view finder arrangement and the arm for the hand grip will be changed. The FS7 is becoming such a standard now that I really think it would be a bad move to change the name so perhaps FS7 MK 2 - which sony have done plenty of times in the past, My first camera was a Sony M3A mk 2, I had a 537a - ( the Mark 2 ) I used plenty of BVW400 a's so I think the FS7 will get a minor upgrade but the main reason will be to offer a kit to push the new ( much more suitable ) lens. I am now feeling very old reflecting on the cameras I have used.

I just wrapped a new series for Outdoor Channel with the FS7. Here are some improvements I'd like to see:

Higher res monitor.
Better Loupe that can flip up and not fall off when looking at the monitor.
An ARRI/F5 style LED screen on the body so i can access ISO, shutter speed, white balance, and fps.
Improved baseplate/shoulder pad
F55 sensor w/ global shutter
Better weather sealing
Cleaner low light performance at 180fps
Improved extension arm for handle
Beefier right hand grip
*Ability to scrub through slow motion playback
Audio enabled during slow motion
False color
Beefier Varicam LT style top-handle
Menu access on EVF a la Amira
Overall menu simplification
Lose the Sony jog-wheel.
Internal ProRes/DnX options.
No line skipping in hfr.
Improved autofocus and face tracking.
