FS5: Sony PXW-FX6

Yeah, it looks almost as big as her head:

But I feel like the length and weight are the limiting factors. It's not that long and we don't know the weight yet. I wouldn't be opposed to using it, even with an a7siii.

It would be nice to see them release a new midrange zoom of this caliber to replace or supplement the 28-135...

The Sony 28-135 is full-frame, parfocal and inexpensive. It has limitations, but the price point is certainly a match for the FX6

$2400: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1082051-REG/sony_selp28135g_e_pz_28_135mm_f_4.html?ap=y&smp=y

Ive been using the 28-135 on an fx9.. and really its not bad .. the manual focus mode is pretty good .. the range is decent in FF.. and its a very good price / size / weight ... its there only game in town really for FF zooms at a decent price / size ..

What does it mean?
No need to worry any more selecting ISO, as the camera will capture the best of the dual base ISO, 800 and 12800?

All is being revealed!

I'm just very happy that finally even the entry level cinema camera from Sony has BNC TC I/O

4K 10.2MP full-frame sensor
UHD up to 120p
4K DCI up to 60p
Base ISO 800 (Cine EI S-Log3)
Claimed 15+ stops of DR
High Sensitivity setting of 12,800 ISO
AF with face detection and Eye-AF
4K 4:2:2 10bit internal recording
S-Cinetone
External RAW recording with Atomos Shogun7
HD up to 180 fps
Electronic Variable ND
Four channels of audio recording
12G/6G/3G SDI
TC In/Out
User uploadable LUTS

And, unlike FX-9, it has a SDI 12G out for external Raw.

Kinda funny how it is beating the FX9 in one or two ways.

Less than half the weight is another big factor!
Lighter than the competition too.
Not really massively heavier than even an a7Smk3

Wonder what is the odds the lower resolution FX6 sensor will outperform the FX9 in low light?

Does it come with a viewfinder piece that attaches to the LCD like the FX7/FX9 and a grip handle?. If not, what options are they for a viewfinder and a lightweight rig to use the camera on the shoulder? Just worried that once those added, the camera cost will be close to a FX9...

Am sure there will be tonnes of very cheap affordable 3rd Party options to choose from soon, if they're not already available.

Looks like a great little camera. I would be interested if it had IBIS. I know this is a sore point for a lot of folks in the cinema world, but watching the promo video with that guy holding the camera high and moving around a lot makes me ask, would you rather watch his footage with or without IBIS? Such a small body is very difficult to stop micro jitters even though it appears to be so mobile. I don't need to be able to run with the thing, just some assist since one would tend to want to hand hold this camera a lot.

The FX6 has many nice features for sure and a bit of down side:
- No audio without the removable handle, this one is incredible
- No 4K S35 mode, but it's due to the sensor resolution, so we can't have everything
Otherwise you have all others great features:
- High bit rates codec
- Autofocus in all modes
- Gyroscope for stab in post if necessary
- variable ND
- Low light performance
- good ergonomic
- TC
- HDMI and SDI output
- ...

If think it's a great camera for sports, wildlife, news and documentary, and probably other applications.

If colors can match with the A7SIII, you have here a great combo.

It's one of those corporate quirks. FX-9 comes from a pro video division and has that digital interface. A7SIII comes from the consumer division and has a direct Raw out (as do Nikon and Panasonic cameras). So, since a more affordable A7SIII has it, FX-6 can't be missing that feature either. In which case, the cripple hammer bit Sony's ass a bit.

The other argument is that R5 threw everything out of the window. 8K Raw for under $4,000. And, if you can't match the specs, you got to load up on the features.

That's fair, within the world of cameras, this is a video camera first, and only a "cine" camera by branding and a few patch on colour profiles. It should have IBIS.

This is a camera that looks like it is meant to be either handheld or on affordable sticks with a long lens, and IBIS will be crucial for both. Not like people buying this camera are going to invest $10K in sticks and head.

Leave the hard mounting to cars to some other camera.

EDIT: just read the specs, looks like there is no IBIS. Will have to buy the A7s3 for all those shaky handheld overhead angles.

I am not seeing a mini 1/8" jack for sound when the handle is taken off, but the top handle does look like it is passing audio via some connection, so maybe there will be a future "hot-shoe" type microphone? It does seem a weird omission. TBD I guess
