Sony PMW EX35... anybody got $17.5k lying around?

A lot of films, including some big time oscar winners were filmed with lesser camera then AF100. If you think AF would be limiting factor in your work, maybe you should learn more craft. Sorry, but the equipment is only as good as the user.

If you want a video camera, buy one of our video cameras! Our addition of video is just another fun feature, we didn't intend for you to make major motion pictures with it!" I'm sure that was their first response to the freaky demands to making capable for movie makers. So, yeah. 12 months to respond was pretty damn quick. They don't owe you anything but the product they origianlly released which was already a FF with the 1DsIII sensor for $700 cheaper than the original 5D. It was groundbreaking already before the upgrade. Your sense of entitlement is bewildering.



Again, just amazing. They had reps in the field with the likes of Charters, Hurlbut, Laforet telling them what they (Canon) had on their hands. I'm sure they were shell shocked by it (we know they were), and just how it would effect the rest of their product line. Did they decide to do the smart thing and protect their video line or let the photo division go ahead and make the 5DII the best video camera it could be. They actually worked against their own interest in pleasing the customer the best they could within the 5DII's limitations.

lets not argue about this now, its futile
well see in a year.

if it doesnt happen in 2011, then 5d mk II was a happy accident for them. the 24p upgrade is just a fluke.

imo, canon doesnt innovate or takes risk. but i would love to be proven wrong.

Tell that to Pablov and all the people who kept up the hard work over at Cinema5D by telephoning, petitioning, and speaking with reps on a daily basis over at Cinema5D so that so many others could benefit more fully from the camera.

Tell that to Tramm Hudson, who got so fed up waiting for them to answer even the most basic concerns like manual controls and 29.97 vs the silly 30fps problem, that he began the hacking process which put direct pressure on them to stop sitting on their hands.

I never said Canon owed me personally anything, but you have absolutely no idea how much pressure was needed to arrive at the point we are at today in terms of usuability.

The fact that Canon barely ever updates anything as you say is more a reflection of their lack of responsiveness, than a testament to what they did for the 5D.

Lastly, keep your personal troll-like judgements of my character to yourself. No one else is interested, including myself.

You were the guys begging canon to shoe horn a square peg into a round hole? Really, if you think canon brought that upgrade because of Cinema 5D, I don't know what to tell you. Laforet and other industry types were on top of it well before that. Trams a great guy, though.

whats the dig with laforet? he shot with the 5d mII first. thats it. hes a photographer turned cinematographer. not hating him, i dont get the praise and gsopel.

anyway bottomline, canon had to have these "industry tyoes" on their asses just for them to update the firmware. id praise them more if they offered more stuff on their other cameras. no matter how you look at it it still is a stills camera that shoots video. i dont get the overpraising either
 
Canon certainly doesn't strike me as a company that is passionate about making motion picture technology. It almost seems like "Oh, well...we do make stills cameras. I suppose we should do this, too..."

Despite the delays and more delays and more delays.. I still think that when the Epic and Scarlets hit the streets, it will be revolutionary. It will be years for the major camera makers to catch up. I will probably get the AF100 simply because the price is just a drop in the bucket but the camera I really want is the Scarlet. With Epic soon to be released according to Red, the Scarlet should be out shortly.

If its competing vs red, the specs arent doing quite well. Its more superior to the af100 except af100 would be way cheaper.

I can't imagine Red not delivering it next year but they have proved me wrong time and time again. I'm not waiting though... the 5D has been keeping me company and the AF-100 may soon join her.
