Sony FX3 camcorder registered - 8K?

Yeah so I feel like Sony could give out two firmware updates here. One for the A7SIII and one for the FX6.

The A7SIII could use a firmware update for S-Cinetone and the ability to select a custom white balance when using the custom modes.

The FX6 could use a firmware update that provides a white balance tool similar to the A7SIII where you can use a small moveable box to select the white area, plus an update to add touch screen AF tracking.

Those two updates plus a redesigned 28-135 would make these camera systems about perfect.

I will attempt a trial of the Expodisc on the FX6 tomorrow ... covers the lens and have used it for years for a quick
white balance ... my lit podcast is a static 5400 K and I will see how close the Expodisc approximates this ...

Good points. I can see the need for the A7sIII to get a decent firmware update which includes matching ability with the X line as well as more video-centric tools like shutter angle and waveform.

I'm just afraid that the missing features were intentionally left out and will not be coming later

Another shame is not being able to upload and bake in your own LUT to the a7siii, which would also solve Josh Milligan's matching problem. Of course, one could do it with a ninja v i believe.

Thanks. That is what I was thinking of. It is rudimentary but something.

i use it to do clear image zoom on my gimbal and it does the trick. if only it could also trigger my ronin-s focus motor which i have driving my zoom.

but with the 28-135 on camera, it will operate the physical zoom of that lens

Yeah leaving those features out intentionally are why I too am afraid they will not be coming out later either. The FX3 release only makes me believe that even more. It's frustrating though because obviously the A7SIII was meant for video and was aimed at the same market the FX3 will be aimed at. That part I don't get.

The 28-135 looks like a versatile lens on the A7sIII. Open up some more "video" type work with the stills body. I agree, a proper LANC connection would make it professional.

Yeah definitely, and that lens has been sold as the kit lens with FS7 and FX9. It would be nice if they updated it to improve the zoom mechanics and optical quality. But it's not too bad and I bought it used for like $1300, so the price is right :)

God these sensationalistic clickbait headlines are so dumb. Canonrumors calls the fx3 specs an "a7siii on steroids"

But it has the same recording modes. The additional mounting points and the xlr adapter are cool. (Doesnt the A7SIII have an xlr module available as well?) But the fx3 didn't get ND and they took away the EVF and possibly also sd card compatibility.

To be clear - the FX6 is the A7SIII on steroids (bulked up and more capable)

Until they do this will make your A7s work with most LANC controllers. How well your lens works is really dependent on the mechanics and electronics of the lens you are working with.

Well the FX6 and the A7S3 do not have the same specs, close but not the same and I expect the FX3 will be like the FX6 not the A7S3. That would make sense for the naming so they will match exactly. What would make it great is if there was a viewfinder that plugged in too for those that want one.

it is on the a7siii. and probably will be on the fx3. I use a 3rd party version of this, which actually connects to the multiterminal port:

...

But what we REALLY need is a LANC port

Maybe it is time to forget sony consumer cameras. Clearly Sony have little interest in providing the elements that make them usable on professional shoots.

Ahalpert.. you put a lot of time into thinking about these cams.. maybe it is just a waste!

At the moment im eyeing the C200 - not because I like it or anything but because is seems to be the cheapest AF camera that is not hampered by a weatlth of consumer level gotchas.

Its a hard choice because cheaper more modern cams prbably make a nicer picture and have better AF but the workarounds make them intolerable and a professional liability.

Ive had to think about that realy hard but as a professional operator Ive decided that 5% more noise and 25% more mass are less important to the professional offering than total failure.

If the latest sony doesnt have ND Im not interested. At all. Even if it is 8k raw. Sure 4k at 500FPS or HD at 1000 Id take a lot of compromises, but HFR is the only thing that could pique my interest in consumer toys. Especially $4000 ones.

I thought this camera made a lot of sense with an ND filter (which I assumed it would have).

Without a variable ND filter (and with a mechanical shutter), I don’t see how it fits into Sony’s recent line-up, or what justifies the Cinema Line FX branding, or how there can be enough differentiation from the α7S III … excepting cynical software differences like S-Cinetone.

So much so that I doubt the most recent specifications leak, even though ‘leaks’ are almost always true these days.

Personally I feel myself very happy and well-staffed with the decision for the C300iii / R5 combo.
You can't have all but they cover almost everything of my needs. The workflow is easy
and the ROI after 9 months looks very promising. Fingers crossed.

I agree with you. Based on the specifications from the leak (assuming they are correct) it really seems so close to the A7SIII, that is makes me really wonder what is the point with such little differentiation. Maybe the Cine EI shooting mode along with S-Cinetone? However, having e-ND really gives the user the best/easiest method of maximizing shooting with Cine EI

Speaking of e-ND - what happened to the external LCD based ND that Panavision was bragging about in 2019?

PS. Technically speaking, one should be able to make an OLED based electronic ND too. LG is exhibiting a see-through TV set even.

Then, there's stuff like this. https://luxlabsdisplays.com/
