Right now, I wish they would just have added HDV or something like that, to record more than 12 Minutes HD For I don't see cards capable of more than 2 GB.
Or am I miscalculating. Thiat might be so because it's quite late here.
Hi Philipp,

Actually the 4GB cards are currently available and when the camra delivers there will be 8 GB cards. If you were shooting in 24P mode then you would be able to record 20 minutes per cards.

Hope this helps,

Jan

20 minutes per 8GB card. Is that in 1080/24p or in 720/24p?

Thanks, Jan!

And if our speculation on Hard Disk recording is correct, then you only need to plug the Hard Disk directly to the camera. No laptop required! Just the off-the-shelf external FW Hard Disk and a cable connecting it to the HVX!
And if this is the case you can easily wear the Hard Drive just like a battery belt! ...eyes glazing over again...! :)

Ever done that? OK, playback some movie on your Laptop and walk around with it. Stops? Dropframes? Aha. Harddrives are a bit sensitive i think ;-)

Hi,

That would be in 720P/24. The 1080/24P is done the same way as we do the 24P on the DVX, in a 2:3 or 2:3:3:2 pulldown. Because in the 720P all of the active frames have flags it is possible to record just those to the P2 card, unlike the 2:3 on the interlace is only flagging the A frame.

Hope that helps,

Jan

Oh, so it's not real 1080 24p ala Cinealta?

I'll use LOTS 'n LOTS of foam!

Mediacre, you're not really gonna "go there", are you? It is real, genuine, 24-frame-per second footage, exactly like the DVX and the XL2 and the SDX and the SPX. It is 24 discrete frames, imaged at 24 hz. It is as real as real gets.

The "real 1080 24p" of the CineAlta refers to how it records to tape, which if you want to get pedantic we couldn't call it 24p, we'd have to call it 24pSf.

I think I misundertood it. I thought she meant the 1080 was not real 1080, but 720 up sampled to 1080.

Gotcha. That makes sense. So 1080 uses up about 1 GB per minute, regardless of frame rate?

But I guess the euro version will record "Real" 25PsF to P2 media...

Probably. DVCPROHD at 25p on a P2 card with 100Mbps, ermmmm, well, let's see, 3.5 GB per five Minutes.

But that's where we have been already.

So it records a 3:2 or a 3:2:2:3 30fps stream in 1080/24p, and this is a limitation of the DVCPRO HD codec chips right?

Gotcha. Okay, sorry, thought you were going to embark on the "dvx isn't 'real' 24p" thing we've heard (and debunked) a million times. So, okay, no worries!

Well, I never argued this part in the DVX actually. But glad we are on the same page now
