C200: Some good C200 footage appearing now!

Also would like to add that RED recommends doing it in a dark room if possible (even though this is a Canon camera)...but you want the sensor as dark as possible for optimal calibration.

So the line goes.
"I'm an indy shooter and I need to up my ISO. Excuse me for a minute as I pop down this alley and BB my CC."
(Black Balance my Canon Camera)
Necessary evils.

I believe Arris don't need to be black balanced. Red takes a few minutes to do a black balance (at least with the Scarlet Mysterium I once had black balanced) and should be black balanced often. What a pain.

ARRIs actually black balance themselves.

The new REDs (at least the Raven) have a choice of 'Manual' or 'Auto Capture'.

If you engage 'Auto', it can take up to 40-45 minutes as it captures 16 different settings to create a calibration curve.

This process is to cover you as best as possible, but manual (a few minutes) is probably good enough for everyone.

So this is what they mean when they say at RED, that it is a digital darkroom. :-)

mmm I just wanted to help, I'll surely don't have to post an example to something so obvious and without an exact A/B comparison done with the same scene...

Actually "thicker" is the perfect word to describe it, TRY IT YOURSELF, apply LUTs, start to grade, and the C200 image FALLS APART quite quickly for being a RAW file, that's a fact.

I was disappointed a lot, I had much higher expectation from the C200 RAWs.

BTW On the other hand I was absolutely IMPRESSED by the quality the puny MP4s give you in comparison tho! I didn't expect much but they're very usable!

Here's some files to have fun in Resolve:

and

With most of the control for C200 RAW turned off in Resolve and not for RED this idea of comparison doesn't make sense to me. Am I missing something? (It seems to me saying that there was support in Resolve for the C200 when they announced it was kind of a red herring. To me it is still "limited" support in Resolve. I would have preferred it if their wording included "limited.")

This footage was uploaded today - MP4 and RAW

Hi Alexander,

I'm the uploaded of the video. I'm sorry but I unfortunately forgot to make it private after uploading it as it's nothing but a test for myself and my colleague at this point. Nothing really interesting in that video anyways. Testing the camera is still a work in progress and I'm planning to release some footage along with a small report in the next few weeks as I'm taking it on my next gig in the amazon rain forest but we are not there yet. As soon as I know what to think of that little camera, I'll share it with you guys.

I'm sorry again for the confusion. It might be better for the both of us to delete those posts.

Nicos

No problem Nicos - I only shared it here because I thought it was some of the best looking footage that I've seen so far from the C200.

Best C200 footage so far. I would've believed Arri Alexa Mini or Amira easily.

Yes, first one where I thought that too.
I guess FilmConvert was involved in the grading and the video is a tad too post-grain heavy, but hence somewhat "organic".
To be fair the pictures color palettes / color composition is spot on, as you would expect from a commercial shoot.
The CameraCave videos NorBro are also nice, but unlike with the DIAVITA video I thought "could also be well graded Sony Log from an A7 variant...".
