Snow Scenes

Re: Snow Scenes

If you go to "Production Music Search", you will find samples based on what you search for.

The chroma level is set to +4 (that's what I meant to say)

Re: Snow Scenes

disjecta....All your stuff is AWESOME..

Make me want to go out in the nature and put that DVX to work.

Re: Snow Scenes

Hate to keep pushing my post back up to the top but apparently one of the links I had in there (see page 4 of this thread) had a corrupted file that didn't play to its end (Magical Fall). I replaced the file and it's working fine now.

Re: Snow Scenes

Disjecta, are you a musician? Your understanding and use of the score in your editing is very, very tight. It's like you can see the music mathematically, much as a musician would.

Re: Snow Scenes

Thanks Frizzlefry, I am a musician. I play piano and played in a number of rock bands for 12 years of my life. Having an understanding of music has helped me immensely when editing.

Re: Snow Scenes

..hey, i didnt know you played piano. i shouldve guessed though, us piano players have a certain way about us ;)

Re: Snow Scenes

Thought so. :) I play piano, too, as well as electric bass. If you played in a band for 12 years I assume you've done some recording as well. Going through that process is very helpful, too. It reinforces the respect you already have for such a tremendous art form, and you pay much more attention to it than many others would.

Man, what a medium film is. It ties in all of my passions: art, music, photography, writing. That's enough for a lifetime of creativity. Can't wait to get my major paid side projects done (and finish remodeling the house) so I can have more fun with it. Do something for myself, ya know?

Have you ever attempted to score your own stuff with a MIDI keyboard and your computer? That's my next thing, I think.

Re: Snow Scenes

I've thought seriously about scoring my own films but I don't have the equipment to do it and I'm just about flat broke right now.

I used to have an 8-track recorder when I was in my band and I wish I hadn't sold it. I also had a pretty cool synthesizer (A Roland Juno 6) that had some awesome sounds that I could really use right now....

It's something I'll consider and will do in the future but not right now.

Neil, you've got a nice setup and the sparse soundtracks you use are very effective.

Re: Snow Scenes

..thanks man. they are sparse as you said though, ..i dont think ive really put anything on here so far that really showcases my orchestration or whatnot yet. just stuff thats been rushed out or whatnot. ive been thinking about doing something to really highlight the score in it, but no time to even think about it as of late. a few guys here have some of my cds that i did hen i had spare time years ago though. if youd like a couple i can send them to you.. just throw me a pm. theres probably some stuff on the easy listening ones that you would like. i should post some songs sometime. :-/
Overlandfilms, I don't see the interlacing you are describing when I look at it. I am going to assume it's your software unless anyone else is noticing it.

Braw, I shoot letterbox and uprez it to 16x9 using Photozoom Pro as documented in the top post in the Technical section of this board. No anamorphic lens used...I don't own one :P

Thanks again for the kudos....
Maybe you have answered this already, but what is your method of uprezzing? There's a cap on how many images photozoom can do at once right? Do you just break them off in max sections and go one section at a time? It seems cumbersome and very involved. Is there a way to automate it or do all frames in one go? ???

Re: Snow Scenes

The cap on the number of images is based on the amount of memory on your computer. I have 1.5gb and haven't had any problems with edits up to 5 minutes so far. I haven't tried anything longer yet. It is cumbersome if you have a slow computer with limited memory and especially if you are doing longer films but if you have a fast computer and are doing shorts, it works just fine.

Re: Snow Scenes

Disjecta,

I sent you a personal email but you must be very busy shooting more footage. Good work. What is the name of the song and it's author on the snow clip?

Re: Snow Scenes

So sorry, I'm pretty good about responding to PMs but I've gotten a lot recently...

The composer's name is Donn Wilkerson and the track name is "Magic Morning".

It's one of the pieces on the music library I use:
http://www.bmgmusicsearch.com/us

It's in the Production Music section.

Re: Snow Scenes

Sound's great..How much does licensing go for music like this for production purposes so I know how much to figure into the budget when I start making some killer shorts like yours?

Re: Snow Scenes

It starts at $90 per drop for local cable and low-level broadcast stuff and goes up from there. You can also purchase a blanket license that will allow you to use multiple tracks at an overall lower fee.

Re: Snow Scenes

on a lot of levels your work is to good to dis, you've mastered the dvx and then some, but that rack focus is weak. at least your real. love your stuff.
