Smuggler's Ransom- OFFICIAL THREAD

Well, this weekend we're competing in the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival! I am sad I won't be going, but excited nonetheless!

Not sure how many of you still are following this thread, but I'll be giving daily (maybe more than daily) updates as Smuggler's Ransom competes in the 2007 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival. My friend, and co-director of the film, Daniel, is out there now, and he'll be giving me reports as he gets news.

DAY 1

Had a chance to speak with Daniel briefly tonight. He said the place is massive, and it's turning out to be a really big festival. He said tonight during the opening ceremonies they announced a new award category for "Production Design" which basically is the asthetic of the look of your film, the sets, wardrobe, etc. We feel Smuggler's Ransom has a great shot at winning this new award category!

Daniel also told me he spoke with a friend of one of the panel of judges (there are 5) and that he said he'd had a chance to see Smuggler's Ransom, and that mid-way through it he forgot he was watching an independent Christian film, he said he really liked it and that the acting was definitely among the top. Another good sign!

The first showing of Smuggler's Ransom is tomorrow afternoon, 2:45 San Antonio time, which is 12:45PM here in CA. I'll be updating once the screening is over, for audience reaction, and maybe some pics! Until then!

I am not there hehe... getting updates from Daniel by the minute...

Apparently there were over 200 people there, standing room only, and a huge applause at the end of the screening! People really loved it! :)

Here they are!! Pics from the festival.

WHOA! Just talked with the festival director, he said there were over 400 people there... they were turning people away, because of fire code! WOW!

What a day! Great turnout for our first screening...

We have one tomorrow (or er um... today actually) at 1:15PM... we're hoping for a huge turnout again as the word spreads about the film!

Then tomorrow night is the awards ceremony which will be the moment of truth to see how our hard work has paid off!

Damn, had I known about this screening before now I could have planned to be there.
Too bad you couldn't go Brice.... I'm only a couple hours away from San Antonio.

Best of luck with the festival!

Dang Luis, wish you could have made it! :(

UPDATE: Daniel called today, and let me know he's been getting a lot of people saying that they're voting for Smuggler's for the audience award... he's been getting good vibes...

He also said people are comparing it to one of three things: An 80's movie, Bourne Identity, and Robert Rodriguez's first movie El Mariachi.

Kind of funny since we definitely have those three elements in the film...

we're waiting with anticipation for the awards show tonight...

I'll also update on the turnout for the screening today!

Jason...

you are a star!

Did I ever send you a copy of the film btw? If not, shame on me, you helped us immensely with it!

Question for ya
Did you get to see your movie on the big screen there?
And if so, how did it look?
Were there any scenes that made you cringe?
Any scenes that made you proud, made you say "oh, yeaaah".? :)

Well, I'm not out there, but my co-director, and friend, Daniel, is... and I asked him about it today, and he said it looked fantastic throughout. I've seen it projected on pretty large screens before so I knew how it was going to look, and yeah, it looks fantastic overall :)
