GH4 SLR Magic 2x Anamorphot

The alignment is dead on horizontal for flare. I've had enough anamorphic lenses over the years to know how to get the alignment correct.

I don't doubt it. Granted I haven't had any hands-on time with it, but I've seen that left to right slant in quite a bit of the preview footage that's been released. The first clips from Photokina seemed to have it too.

Some prototype footage I posted in December did not exhibit slanting bokeh, just the tradition oval type. I will begin testing the 2x over the weekend.

As a comparison this is a still from a freshly serviced Nipponscope 40mm. It angles a bit as well. Seems like a pretty normal tolerance range that looks magnified with close subjects.


We'll end up seeing what the other testers samples look like, if mine is the only angled bokeh, I guess we will find out soon enough.

SLR Magic 2x Anamorphot quick video stills samples. On Canon FD SSC 35mm f2 with Metabones Speed Booster (first 3 shots, little vignetting and sorry little problem with alignement), the others on Canon new FD 50mm 1.4 with Metabones Speed Booster. No diopters, all at f4 or f5.6,GH4 UHD 4:3.

Is the performance the same as the 1.3 anamorphot? Which do you prefer to work with?

Compared to the 1.33x the normal focus range is 8m or 26 feet to infinity and near focus goes down to 1m or 3 feet. The coloration and flare are similar between the two, and they'd work better as a set rather than shooting with them both individually

Received a 2x demo unit yesterday. Did a quick comparison with a 35mm taking lens. I'm really digging it so far. More tests to come.

Took the Anamorphic 2x out again this afternoon.

And shot a variety of compositions with some friends who also happen to be actresses.

The top and bottom frames were shot on a GH4 with a Nikon AIS 35mm f/1.4 @ f/5.6 and the middle CU is with a Nikon AIS 50mm f/1.2 @ f/5.6.

Shot this yesterday. Was conducted with three Nikon AIS taking lenses: 35mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.2 & 85mm f/2. There are a few close-ups in there where I used their new +1.8 diopter too.

No, cropping does not give the same effect. It provides the illusion but much like wide angle lenses, the anamorphic process when done right delivers a much "deeper" image. A wide angle lens does it by "distorting" the spatial relationship between foreground and background. The anamorphic lens does the same thing without the distortion.

I'm finding that I like shooting with the 35mm taking lens the most. Here's some more stills from another shoot this morning. In order form top to bottom: 35mm, 35mm +1.8 dopter, 50mm, 35mm.
