GH4 SLR Magic 2x Anamorphot

Thanks for the info! Do the two different versions create different aspect ratios? With the new GH for having this is an option will that change things? I'm not sure to much about how anamorphic work so I'm trying to learn on the fly. I do think that these lenses will be quite popular so find me one might be some trouble.

The 1.33x would be used with 16:9, the 2x is better used with 4:3 (which the GH4 offers), you get more of the anamorphic look, i.e. oval bokeh with the 2x especially with a diopter, the 1.33x is easier to focus with and to use handheld.

The best bet is to look at example videos on Vimeo and YouTube using both adapters.

Thanks! I've been watching a lot of videos and some with some of them just look amazing. Seems like you have to be able to have a lot in the image to really make it shine. Nice highlights and why dynamic range and some moody fine so imagery. The rather flat bland stuff that I saw didn't look that impressive other than it being quite wide screen but the other stuff that I saw from night shots just look absolutely awesome. I really think I would be inclined to also use some of the diopters and all kinds of things to get that kind of West Anderson look. It's very easy to see how he uses the frame and now we can too.

The response I got from SLRMAGIC was sometime in the summer, but then I heard the end of May. I can't wait to also update the firmware!

Do the two different versions create different aspect ratios?

Yes. And as mentioned by P13, require different capture settings to remain close. But the 2x will be wider and "thinner".

With the new GH for having this is an option will that change things?

Only that it now allows 24p in both formats.

Finding a good cost effect anamorphic lens is definitely difficult, if not close to impossible. "Reasonably priced" new lens are coming but they will be still very spendy. The SLR Magic 1.3x adapter is available now. The 2x is not yet available. The other thing to bear in mind with the adapters is they are bound by what focal lengths can be used as the taking lenses. For the 1.33x, 20mm is about the widest, although I believe in 4K mode, you could go slightly wider. The 2x is happiest with 35mm, although again, you could go slightly wider. The longest lens I've used is a 58mm, although I don't think that is the limit.

just updated my GH4 firmware...

I got the pre-order SLRMagic2x in the mail a week ago! Haven't tried it yet, thinking of getting a solid 28mm EF to pair with my speedbooster for a "normal" FOV? Or possibly ~20mm native MFT?

Renting the Lumix 12-35MM tomorrow, might play around with "auditioning" various focal lengths!

A musical short, on this I was took the 3DR Solo shots, the primary shots were done by a young director called Conor Butler, the GH4 was used with the a Super Takumar 55mm F1.8 vintage lens with the SLR Magic 2x Anamorphot and the SLR Magic Rangefinder.

If anyone is planning to go to Photo Plus Expo in NYC next week I would be around. If here is a lens you wish to try I could bring it along if you contact me ahead of time by emailing support@slrmagic.com

The SLR Magic Anamorphot-CINE 2x 50mm T2.8 would be on demo at the Panasonic booth.

Kind rgds.,
Andrew

I bought the SLRmagic Anamorphot and it didn't come with the Rangefinder. Is it possible to get that at the pre-order price or an additional cost savings? I realize that I do need to get something like that. Are there a few different models? I have a couple of other anamorphic adapters besides this SLRmagic one. Thanks in advance.

The Rangefinder could now be ordered now and pre-order is over:

The only way to get it at an additional cost saving is to order the 2x Anamorphot w/ Rangefinder and use the Rangefinder between the 1.33x and the 2x Anamorphot. This way you get to use both anamorphic adapters.
