slow-mo tricks...what do you do?

the most consistent advice i've searched for on this matter led me to a technique i'm now comfortable with: shoot 60i, convert to 60p, then drop it into 24p and slow it down to .50. only for me, the footage isnt always as silky smooth as examples i have seen, and i believe it's because it seems like people favor different shutter speeds. some like 1000th/sec, while others insist 120/sec is perfect. and up until now i've shot with 120th/sec only. i am a run n gun shooter for the most part, and am too unsure at this point in messing with rediculiously fast shutters. i shoot mostly everyday-life, and not super fast action. no sports, no car races, no ultimate fighting. mostly just things in public.

so i was looking for a pool of advice on shutter speeds in particular as it pertains to a 60i>60p>24p at .50 speed. i edit in Vegas, but i imagine this can be transposed to most NLEs.

i apologize for being so specific, and i certainly am open to trying other frame rate conversions.

any insight would be great for me, and for other A1 users who don't know more about getting good slow motion out of their cameras.

Thanks a lot everyone.

I have the XHA1 and edit with Sony Vegas. I'm in PAL land... I just shoot in 50i and import it into a 25p timeline making sure the frame blending is set to 'interpolate' and reduce clip speed by 50%.
I can't go above 120th on the shutter when using the Letus Extreme. I'm happy with the results I get using this process:

wierd, i've watched that video before and really liked the slow mo, didn't know that was you...never made the connection. haha! well, you seem to use one step less than me with better results. i guess i'll never stop messing around. it can only get so good though, you know?

Just to add, I would love some info on the same subject. I'm a bit of a novice really but have just bought myself an XH A1.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't you be slowing the 60p footage down to .40 speed when you drop it in a 24p timeline (24/60 = .4)? That's what I've done in the past and I've always been happy with the results. Sorry I don't have any examples handy. Let me know how that looks if you try it. If you give it a shot let me know how it turns out. Cheers

well, i have tried both, and in my case, i guess .40 wasn't quite as smooth....though, depending on what i'm doping, sometimes i slow it down to .25...it depends on what i'm shooting. i'll try your method again sometime soon, just to refresh...thanks for the respondes everyone! i thought this thread had died
