"Sleeper" by Matt Sconce and Mark Aro

Thanks for cleaning it up, Brody.

And no, it wasn't poised to come off abrasive, you're right. I used the movie to conjur a mental image of how I "saw" the short. Might not've been the nicest way to put it, but, it was a choice constructed to inform or to correlate.

I am sincere in saying that I hope you guys finish it up and then exhibit again. Thumbs up for doing instead of talking about doing.

Actually, I thought the story was pretty cool. But the effects were, like, really bad. I mean I saw the rope pulling the girl up off the ground, and then I saw green screen cloth everywhere. In one part, I even saw some guy's arm holding up the cloth! Geez. I would expect more from you two! For shame. :Drogar-Evil(DBG):

HA!

(I couldn't resist.)

What I will do when I get to that point is I will animate a rough character (porxy) over the top of the video, rotoscoping the actors movements and the shape of the character will be real close to the actors. Then I will use particles on the proxy and use them as the deflector. I will render this and set the proxy as NOT VISIBLE to the camera and then I will have rain that the character moves through in the final composite. This is important to the story which I will share with you later. I will add real rain in front of and behind the characters to top this scene off.

Very interesting. I think I may have some ideas why you are doing this effect. Mainly, I just want to see how it turns out. Send me that PM when you can and I'd like to discuss some details with you, Mark.

What do you mean... all that stuff is the finished content. I put all of that in there in post. The bed, the guys, the rope. Before me she was just a demon chick rising up supernaturally... where is the fun in that. I made it look so real that you actually thought the guys, the rope, the green were all there! NOT!

I ROCK! (hehe)

yeah i was, like, really let down on the all the green screen cloth. i just thought you guys could have cleaned that up a bit. im dead serious. just kidding. unfortunatley we have just set a precident that no work in progress will ever be screened on HVXuser (sorry i just renamed the site) ever again.

possible scenario:
(2008, Iowa, wheat field, 9pm)
Phil: Hey rick, we're not gonna finish grindhouse-fest by tommorrow night.
Rick: Screw it, lets just post what we have.
Phil: After the crap those Sleeper guys got back in '07, not a shot.
Rick: Agreed. let's roll another fatty.

Thanks for sharing the film even though it's not complete. At least we get to see something rather than nothing. I've always been a fan of your work Matt and this one looks like it'll be killer when it's fully finished. You've already got some sweet VFX in there with the throwing of that star; nicely done Mark!!

I feel that the visuals topped the story with this one. I think the concept/premise was interesting but it took too long for it to get started. I almost wish that she had become the 'sleeper' at the 2 or 3 minute mark (at the very latest) and then we saw more of her in action. Anyway, it was fun to watch and I hope to see the finished version soon!

Yeah, we let it all hang out. not our best side, but hey... we're not shy.

Thanks man... Yeah, we have mentioned it a time or two, but the story in the shorter version is fairly well gutted. We will remidy that on the final. Now that the cat is out of the bag (so to speak) I will share more VFX in progress stuff, if any one is interested.

Yep, I am happy we posted this as well. I think we have learned a lot from the feedback, even to the point of scheduling that new scene! I am also excited we can keep the community up to date with advances in effects as we are not having to hide things based on not revealing elements of the story. I think our film will be better for it.

I agree with you Mark that encouragement is the way to build people up. I like the analogy you said earlier about the man with the Hammer. All people have the capacity to build. They have the hammer. Some work to build there house up to the best of their ability with that hammer or apply their hammer to show others how to build. While other make their house better by taking their hammer and tearing others down.

I taught Martial Arts for many years. Their were many times I could have said "That punch sucks or your technique is horrible." That would have been honest, but honesty can still exist with tact. Instead of telling the student that his technique was horrible, I would explain to him that if he changed A and B his technique would be better and he would have more power. I taught him how to be a better martial artist by emphasizing his strengths and showing him how to corect his weaknesses. Encouragement, honesty and tact go together to make an excellent teacher. I will always try to treat people this way, and I will try to be more understanding of the people who have not yet discovered this, or do not agree.

I am excited to see what this movie becomes. There are 300 pages of novel behind it and we will make it fit our vision. I am excited some people liked it even in its lame state of incompletion. Mark and I will work like crazy to make it shine for you later!:)

Man that movie brought out the geek in me. Honestly i didn't expect it to be that entertaining, but i really liked it. I definitely looking forward to see the finished movie. Oh and i think the girl really has something interesting about her!

Thanks dude! We think she does too! The scene we added was based on a couple people saying they didn't care what happened to her due to disconnection. We now will have a scene that helps intro people to her before things go bad.

We mega geek out as well over the VFX and the fantasy scifi. So you can geek out with us more Just wanted to let you know....this is a trailer for a concept with monsters, guns, samurai sword, ancient warriors, good and evil forces, stunts, martial arts, time warping, and extra dimensonal concepts. Matrix, meets lord of the rings, meets Constantine. When it is done it should be a new step in what Mark and I have done and the first step toward that feature.

Thanks again for commenting and I am glad you liked it and Paige!

Really ambitious stuff guys, my hat's off to you for that! I certainly agree with a few people's comments that it isn't entirely clear what's happening throughout, and what the various characters motivations for their actions are.

However, what you've shown us is a very full 6 minutes - so I don't think cleaning up and cutting down that 6 minutes is your issue so much as adding in the additional (3 was it?) minutes that flesh out the story for us.

I'm pumped to see the final version, and I actually really enjoyed seeing how some of your vfx work was done (an area I'm starting to look into a bit). Well done.

Wow! Good stuff here. Definitely finish it!

The only thing that really didn't work for me was the assasin's acting when he met the girl, it was just too over the top.

But the camera reveals were great, the mood was awesome. Keep going!

Thanks for watching and commenting! The actor is acting as if a storm is raging around him (Loud Thunder and lightning) etc....hence to yelling. It will be much more believable once we have put that storm into the scene.:)

You have to leave the final "monster" leaving the girls body... that was awesome...

haha. We will have an awesome monster there for real. That outline was drawn by Mark to give our composer and sound designer something to synch to. We call it Lumpy Butt and think it looks pretty funny! :)
