Hey Simon, I was checking out DIY steadicams and I saw your contraption. Pretty Cool!

How did that ever turn out? Do you still use it?

Well, LMAO! I just looked up through this page of posts and I SEE YOU STEADICAM!!!

I guess you DO still use it.

That looked like a pretty intense DIY project. How well does it work? What changes would you make to it (if any)?

I haven't used it latetly. Actually due to the fact, that I didn't film at all lately. I try to get my ass up with this entry. Even though it doesn't involve the steadicam.

Yeah, it was quite an intense project. Took me much longer to build than expected.

I would say it works quite well, but it definately has some flaws.

1. Main problem is the shell arround the big bearing. The up and down axis is not totally centered. And probably the big bearing is not perfectly aligned horizontally on the main post. That means, I can balance my Stabilizer, but when I pan the camera to the left or right it slightly swings to one direction and is not complete straight anymore.

2. I would build the gimbal connection for the up and down axis different. It was a compromise in the first place, because I was not able to drill big holes into the metal sheets. I used 4 bearings in a way they are not suposed to be used. It works, but is not perfect.

3. Build it as light as possible! It is quite heavy. If possible, try to use aluminum only. I didn't and I see what I've got.

I wanted to improve #1, but didn't follow up. Will probably do that some day.

Good info there, Simon. Thanks! As much as I want a steadicam, I just don't feel like building on. Seems like they are quite easy to build but the weight issue and the placement of critical parts scare me off!

May attempt one... but I continue to look for a great deal on a used one.

My project? It is on standby as I am working on other things. I'll be getting on my project soon.

This is sounding quite interesting, looking forward to it! I know the feeling of the 'one-man show'... I'm with you there. This is going to be fun.

Yeah, it will be fun for sure. Will finish the Set quite soon hopefully.

And the budget :D Actually I think it is not going up much more. I've nearly got everything I need. My concept is very simple.

We had a small meeting at the SINAMON PRODUCTIONS headquarter tonight. Mr. Tripod, Mic Stand and Mr. Steadi just dropped by for a couple of beers.

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Tripod will be our Camera assistant and Mic Stand will be our boom operator. Mr. Steadi would love to be involved in our project too, but right now there seems to be no position that fits. :cheesy:

I like it too :) I've got another one and also a suitable couch. Will hopefully use them in one of my future projects.

Update on my entry:
Will probably shoot this thing next Sunday. Still have to setup the set and also prepare one prop.
 
Damn it. Houston, we've got a problem....

My partner Sinan Kurtulus broke his kneecap. Again! Man that sucks, for him and for this project. I feel so sorry for him. It is such a damn struggle to recover from this. It takes ages.

Looking for an alternative actor now. I am still trying to pull it off.
 
Oh yeah! Wrapped this thing yesterday at 10pm :)

That was a long day, but it was alot of fun! Had to compromise quite a few things, but such is life. Now its time for post production.

I still have to take a few pickup shots and later I have to make lots of audio recording.

My budget went up yesterday :D Most for food and drinks of course and gasoline.

Had to buy a Black Pen (5.42$), and a pack of cigarettes (6.20$). Food and drinks was probably about 60$. Gasoline probably another 40$. Driving around adds up fast at those gas prizes.

That makes 111.62$

And a total budget of:

135.10$

Today I did two pickup shots and also recorded some sound.

I also finished the first cut and did some color correction :) Needs alot of finetuning of course.

And then comes the big part, where we have to do the complete sound.
 
Sound recording is nearly finished. Now Sinan Kurtulus needs to make the score.

Until now I am quite pleased with the outcome of this project. Even though it has a lot of flaws. Thats what you get when you act, direct, operate the camera, move lights and do tons of other stuff. But it was alot of fun!! We'll see what the next movie brings :)

Thanks! The poster actually really represents the film. It shows after watching the movie :) Also looking forward to you entry. Glad that your actor showed up again!
 
Simon, congrats on having it almost complete. It looks like you guys had a lot of fun making it and that's what really counts. :beer:

Mine pretty much fell apart... so my Timefest thread is now about my guitar playing... :) Expect to hear news in that thread regarding whatever band I choose to join...
