SGpro Beach Shots

Me and a few others are shooting a video for a class about an alien abduction. We needed a shot of a woman on a beach (don't know why) doing yoga like poses. I shot some other stuff too because it looked cool.

Each shot looks different, I messed with them all to compare them to one another.

really like the footage man. Great grading as well. I would be very curious to know what you did for the first two shots we see color. The first one is slightly desaturated but the second one is bang on something i'm looking for, please share if you can!

seriously it looks amazing, my mind is made up about the adapter. It has a certain esthetic that none of the other adapters have. LOVE IT.

man thats some awesome footage. it really came out well. the ocean sounds were good too. were those stock sounds or did you record them?

im jealous of that SGPro. keep up the good work.

great footage again man. love the sgpro. did you change your settings for this. or using the same. also whats your shutter speed. did you change up your speeds?

I logged onto the forum to post this same thing cause I totally forgot I already put it on here to share. Silly me...

Mattyq - Vignette was from being zoomed out too far. I think I was at like 67 instead of the usual 74z I stay at where there is little burnage on the sides. I don't really mind it most the time.

Papa - The first color shot I think I started with the Curahee preset from MB, i lower the saturation a bit, got rid of the default diffusion of the blacks and whites (or maybe it was just blacks, or whites). Before that I played with the curves a little to darken it making a italic S shape in the graph thingy in vegas.
The second color shot I started with the Coolish preset from MB, got rid of all the diffusion, got rid of some saturation, lowered the gamma a little.

KDunne - The sounds were from Sound-Ideas General 6000. It was just a ambient distant ocean sound. Didn't have headphones so I couldn't edit it to music so I just slapped that on.

Everyone else - THANKS

DeckardScott - No I didn't change any scene file stuff, probably the same as yours actually. I think most of the shots with water were 1/1000 and the shots of the lady were probably 1/500 or something lower. The water hitting the rocks looked cool at 1/1000, but I didn't want to climb out onto the rocks too far cause the algee was slippery.

I love the attection that this thing gets you. When people see the DVX with the SGPro w/ follow focus and a guy holding a boom mic, it looks like someone is actually MAKING a movie.

I have a question though, (I might make a topic on it) about why my RAW footage comes out dark, but then I make an .avi with DIVX, it looks brighter, and more like what it looks like on the LCD, but ANY other format, it looks WAY too dark and I'm scared that when I make a DVD, it will go dark again.

Great images, Steven. I really like that you graded each shot differently to give a much broader scope of the work you did. The images look rather sharp in their focus. Nice stuff all around. What were you shooting this for?

ya, stuff is nice and sharp yet soft at the same time. Very nice.

Hey lawsuit, been a while.

Wreck - I know what you mean. The first day I went out shooting in Philly, I only had my DVX and the SGpro on the rails. I didn't have my shotgun on it or my Cavision supports or anything else, and I got stopped by a dozen people asking what I was shooting, or asking me to shoot something for them. I have no idea about your footage problem though...

My LCD is lighter than my viewfinder. I usually go by what I see in the viewfinder because I am usually outside and its easier to see even though its miniature. When the footage gets on the computer, it isn't as dark as the viewfinder, but not as bright as what the LCD shows. I usually export as an uncompressed MOV and then use QT Pro to export it again. It takes away a little bit of color or something cause it usually looks a tad brighter than it does in Vegas.

Thanks Lawsuit and PaPa
I basically went to the beach with some group members from school to shoot a shot of the ocean, and some shots of the lady on the shore. The video its for is wacky. It is about alien abduction where this young guy is taken, and told a message or something and the government wants to know wha the knows. And somehow, the message ties in with weird stuff like starry skies, the ocean, the woman on the beach, a corn field and a few other things I have to get around to shooting.

You can see some rough edits of random scenes from it. All done with the SGpro here. It is coming out semi good looking, even though I don't think the sun has been out once since we started getting footage for it.

I don't even know what order these go in, I just volunteered to shoot the stuff (I edited these for my own sake to see how it looked)

They are compressed heavily but the picture still looks good

I just watched the "edit2 Park scene" cut. The colors look pretty swell, the focus is strong, and the editing is very tight--a great demonstration of continuity editing. The only weak link seems to be the acting, but it's not terrible. Both of the male parts were done well.

Normally, I would say to shy away from breaking the 180 degree line for general scene blocking, trying to keep the camera along a similar axis, but I suppose that with the disjointed nature of the main character, it is permissible. Good overall.

Hey Lawsuit
The guy in the video I think did some theater stuff, he did pretty good but I made my girlfriend play the other part cause the original girl backed out or something, I am surprised she did decent for never doing it before

yeah the 180 messed it up bad. I blame it on looking at an upside down image though, confused me

i flipped it in ae it made it less noticeable. i am going to post a file when its done all the way.
