Seperate audio, or juicedlink DT454 audio into camera?

So when I first got into DSLR's from my dvx100b everyone told me to stop plugging my xlr mics into the camera and record audio seperate. So for the past 5 years i have either recorded audio seperate or used the rode videomic with a 10 foot cable straight into my camera.

So now that DSLRs have been making progress, can i start plugging my NTG-2 into the juicedlink DT454 and have that straight into my camera? Or will i get better audio going from my microphone to an H4n? I am asking because my recorder broke and i dont know if i should buy a new one or put that money towards a preamp link the juicedlink? It says it has 4 channels? Can i record with 2 lavs at the same time into my dslr? or can i record with 2 booms at once with this device going into my gh4?

Any better or cheaper options than this:

I use a Tascam DR-40:
http://www.amazon.com/DR-40-4-Track...8&qid=1406861794&sr=8-1&keywords=tascam+dr-40

I then connect that to the GH4 via this cable:

That way, I can record from my XLR microphones into the camera directly, AND into the Tascam simultaneously. Works like a charm, and is cheaper than the JuicedLink.

I have the Tascam dr-40 and it started adding a squeaking noise for no reason so i dont want to buy another one. I tried different mics and different xlr cables and its def the recorder. I wonder if that cable would help?

If the Tascam "started adding a squeaking noise" it was not for no reason. Off the top of my head, what you are describing may have been feedback for having headphones too close to a source. If not feedback than there is a problem with your specific sample, if you bought it new you should return it.

Running a mic level output from a mixer like a juicedlink (or whatever) to camera is marginally simpler than using a double-system audio recording system, I think the best option is to do both, use the external recorder as your mixer and sending the out to the camera, this gives you a backup as well as a solid sync reference. The issue for some time has been finding a recorder that will output a mic level signal that the cameras (DSLRs) can handle, but now there are several recorders that specifically do this. FWIW I like the mic pres on the Tascams I have used better than Zooms.

I did a comparo of the Zoom H6 recorder to the GH3: http://www.homebrewedmusic.com/2014/01/23/lumix-gh3-audio-vs-zoom-h6/ It includes clips you can download for critical listening.

The H6 and the H5 have quieter preamps than the H4n. They also have a line out separate from the headphone out, and with the latest firmware there's a soft pad that can pull down the line out up to 30 dB if needed.

And the H5 is less expensive than the Juicedlink you linked.

I got the zoom h4n for a shoot and it worked much easier than the dr-40. The dr-40 was new and worked fine for a few months (i think), the issue only starts up after ive been using it for about 10 minutes. I dont think it could be an over heating issue? but turning it off for a few hours it will work again for 10 minutes of straight recording then start adding the noise which gets worse and worse the longer it is used. I have it set on something stable and the mic is on a c-stand so nothing is being moved or messed with. The only thing I can think that would have screwed it up would have been turning on phantom power on accident with a mic already being powered by batteries.

I will stick with my H4N, but still wondering if there is an easier set up so I dont always have to sync audio for every simple shoot.

How did the samples sound in the demo posted just above your entry? Would that level of recording quality meet your need?

The Tascam Dr-60 is a steal now, and it has pretty good pre-amps for the price. You can run that right into the GH4 as a backup track, or if you use shotguns mics, keep the GH4 audio separate for ambient.

Another +1 on the Tascam DR-60D. I have it mounted on a "magic arm" connected to my rig and connect to my camera. I have safety backups recorded on the recorder, but I've never had to use them. No more syncing in post.
