Capt Quirk
Veteran
Hawk, your figure was about 6' or was it the 3' variety? Shadowmen is what they are called, and the shorter ones are sometimes considered to be weaker minions of the demon world. Not much is really known about them. We had the shorter ones in our last home, you would see them going by out of the corner of your eye. I used to joke they were the ghosts of the 7 Dwarfs.
It is really hard to share stories with the general public, because as soon as you say "ghost", you get "the look" as the person backs away thinking you are a fruitcake. I can understand the skepticism, because that is the same look I gave my family when they described their encounters, and sure, there could be other explanations.
In our case, I only wish it were a cuddly ghost, but a lot of the characteristics were almost demonic. Knocks on the wall in 3's, and usually the activity spiked around 3 am. What really convinced me that it was inhuman in nature, was when I saw it. That was what really shook me, as it had the figure of a man in colonial garb, complete with a tri cornered hat. But the face was wrapped in bandages like a mummy, with sunken pig like eyes and furry animal like hands. This sounded similar to the stories of the elemental at Leap Castle.
Yeah, it sounds like the Capt has been smoking some heavy stuff... but not too long ago, my wife ran into our former neighbor. She said her daughter had seen what she claimed was a cowboy in a cape several times from a distance. I could see how she thought that. What we had was not specific to just our house apparently, but more to the general area.
After the Hurricanes had trashed our home, we spent the next year and a half trying to rebuild. Since the mortgage company snatched the insurance money and didn't want to release it so that we could get the house done, it went very slow. We were forced to move back in before it was done, and I continued working on it. This is when the activity really got out of control, to the point we called in paranormal investigators. They didn't find much aside from really wacky EMF readings that were about four feet off the ground and went up and down the street, and some orb activity. I laughed at them when they mentioned orbs, because orbs mean nothing- specially when there was no carpeting and lots of masonary dust inside. But then they showed me the video. The "orbs" would start flying real heavy in one room and disappear, then start up in another room. I have no idea what else they may have found, because they never called back.
One night, I was really curious, so I hooked up my wireless lapel mic and set it on top of the thermostat in the hallway, and ran the receiver into my PC and recorded it live overnight. The next day I listened to that huge audio file and found two things of interest- the first was a sniffing/snorting sound, and the second was the sound of a door slamming. The mic was at least four feet off the floor, so I know it wasn't my dog. As for the door slam, that doesn't sound suspicious at all, until you realize that we hadn't put any interior doors in yet.
Yeah, it was really interesting there, and I have barely mentioned a portion of what we experienced.
