Second sd card slot

If the camera came with the 3MOS sensor then I would probably go with Sony for my next camera, one of the reasons i got the 150 is CCD sensors, the next solid state and last but not least AVCHD. A stronger codec than HDV. If CCD goes, then i could get all the others from Sony and a GORGEOUS LCD. I also miss the location of the LCD (i like it on the top front)

Please Panasonic! no CMOS, and a better LCD!!! and that's all it takes to keep me happy =)

And this I think really hits upon something. While swapping out the chips for the HPX300's might be theoretically easy, it would drastically change the camera. And this talk assumes that the drastic changes constitute an improvement. That is subjective. The reason I bought this camera and not the Z5 or Z7 was in part due to the CCD's. If Panasonic wants to come out with an HMC175 with the 300's CMOS sensors, that's one thing. But swapping out the CCD's for CMOS in a product line still in production effectively makes it a new camera, with different characteristics than the previous generation. And those new characteristics aren't necessarily an improvement. That doesn't make a lot of sense.

My point exactly, i don't want a CMOS until they fix each and every problem that's wrong with them... I loved my old Sony, but lack of CCD was a major factor of me switching to panasonic.

I would really like to see a better LCD on the 150, the one on it right now reminds me of the ones on the canon GL1/GL2, and even those might be better!

I tend to agree that it might not be an improvement for many of us, although the flash band fix should help. I was simply arguing that it might be a good move from panasonic's point of view and it seemed to me that the writing was on the wall for 1/3 inch CCDs at Panasonic the moment the HPX300 came out.

Prom a marketing perspective they could call it "Full HD" and the cost would probably be less for them.

If/when they do it, I doubt they would keep the CCD model going along side it for long, if at all.

If they took the 3MOS chips from the hpx300 they could keep the same form factor and optics in the 150/70, the electronics may need some changes possibly to cope with the new chips, but it shouldn't be that difficult. It would actually reduce costs for panasonic as CMOS chips are cheaper, and having all 3 cameras with the same chips will give economies of scale.

I like my HMC150 the way it is... thanks.

cmos sensors beh.

Wish I had it shooting tonight! I was stuck with the t1i since I had to go undercover....

I fully agree... I don't like it, but I agree. Plus, from the same marketing perspective, the Sony's use 1440 res chips. The constant knock against the Panasonic's are that they're such lower resolution than the competition. By sticking the 300's chips in them, suddenly the Sony's become the lower res cameras (until you step up to the EX1).

They might continue a new CMOS cam along side the 150, for a while....Sony did keep the Z1 in production along side the V1, didn't they? We could hope Panasonic takes the same path....

I'm happy that Panasonic keeps its own course because Sony camcorders seem to be created in some virtual vaccum with no concepts of consistency in product line, and ergonomically they are just dreadful. From everything I've shot with them, they are horrible for any handheld shooting and their menu and control layouts vary so dramatically from model to model. I'm not planning on switching to Sony anytime soon and have been a staunch opponent to their line for those two points.. The final product might be excellent, but the process seems to be quite a painful one... .02 and rant over.

For what i have seen in recent years from Sony, all of their controls are pretty much in the same location and easy to access. And for handheld they're just as good if not better than the ergonomics on the HMC150... Yes i know they're a little heavier because the tape mechanism, but maybe that'll change now that they're tapeless as well.
But as far as ease of use, I like the layout of the LCD they have been using for a while.
Even Canon tried to make it similar by the way they make their LDC swing and turn up.

I'm not bashing Panasonic or Sony, but they are both really good companies, to prove a point I came from a Sony FX1 to the HMC150 and i was pretty much at home with all the Controls on the Panasonic, almost the same layout!
I did have to get use to moving the power switch down instead of up to turn it ON, also had to switch the menu on the 150 to make the iris open and close the opposite way. but thats about all i had to re-learn...

To be honest i still get Cranky when I'm moving my shutter on the panasonic. the way it was on the sony was in order, 1/4, 1/8, 1/15, 1/30, 1/60..... and so on... like people say, in order, and with a wheel
on the panasonic it feels out of order, 1/60, 1/15, 1/30, 1/100.... and it's even more weird with 30P 1/48, 1/15, 1/30, 1/60, 1/120.... feels out of order, and the button's don't make it easier (wish it was a wheel
why don't they put it in order by amount of light? why is the 1/60 or the 1/48 before the rest of the scale?

ugggghhhh rant over here too... my 1/50 of a dollar!

the nxcam would ve been better IF they updated the sensor and the price is less than 4000

i think panny will release a 3mos 150/170.. diff model number.. goes along with the ccds

I would like to see an HMC-150 like camera with a larger much higher resolution LCD, much stronger OIS, Dual sd card slots, adjustable Kelvin, f/2.0 telephoto end, and (I know I'm forgetting something)...

I like the idea of some of the updates but I've never seen the need to have a 2nd SD cardslot on this camera... unless it's a redundant one that writes an identical video stream...

Yup much higher resolution LCD, and adjustable kelvin temperature would be nice.
F/2.0 would be awesome but pretty much impossible at this price range, and would also increase the weight! and maybe making it front heavy.

Dual slot would be nice for what Justyn said redundancy!

I like my HMC 150. It is an awesome camera for the money. I will be trying to decide whether to keep it or not at the end of February when I order my HPX 300. I think someone here has already mentioned that Panasonic has provided an excellent value for the price in this camera and if you need more features, I think you buy "more" camera.
IMHO

Which camera has a high resolution LCD, dual sd card slots, and stronger OIS?

It's the principle of it... you're only paying $3,500 (give or take) for the camera. While some of those features would be nice, it's still a heckuva bargain as it is for that price.

Yup, i get that! so arguably i could say that sony is the better cam for having the better LCD. But in reality i don't think is bad we ask for a better LCD and other options like the ones mention. The fact is that Sony has those features at a really similar price, give or take some! and if panasonic want to compete against their new cams, then they'll have to listen to what people have to say and the competition!...

I would gladly pay for "more"camera once those features arrive. Could be Sony or Panasonic!

Exactly! In my case the HMC 150 was the camera I needed for the project I have been working on for the past year. At the time I was looking to buy an HD camera for this project there were many to choose from Panasonic, Sony Canon,JVC. I had given up on waiting for Scarlet. I evaluated the needs of the project and made the choice, my upcoming project has different needs.
Sure it would be great to see some of the options folks are requesting, but I always use an external monitor with the HMC 150, am not an OIS user so those would not be on my list.
I do however think they should ship it with a lens cap as well as the lens hood cap for those of use who use Matte boxes. I have added an alloy base by Curtis Guise-http://www.jdfab.com/theplate/ which I feel protects the body of the camera when it is attached to Cavision plate and rods and Brevis as well as the Kessler/PT20 head.
So a bit more structural thought to the base of the camera would be good. I am not nuts about the plastic plate on the audio controls, but it comes off.
As for a second card slot, not needed. I use 16 gig cards, never had an issue. Now that there are 32 and soon 64 ...well..
