Second sd card slot

It's likely to come at some point - but not on the 150. It's going to be a new model number at least.

What would be nice with two cards is if the data could be recorded to both simultaneously, in a kind of RAID 1 configuration - that way if one card fails (and we constantly hear about cards failing), you still got all the data on the other card. When dealing with high value data like video, it's nice to have the data mirrored for extra security. Of course, that would require not merely another SD slot, but some additional hardware and software. Quite worth it, IMHO. But just to have more recordable time... meh, like phd said, when cards start hitting 64GB, that's not the stress point. Data loss continues to be the bigger stress point, IMHO.

Continuous recording isn't much of a justification given the long record times of SDHC cards. However, redundant recording would be a huge selling point given the reliability issues so many posting here are worried about. Being able to dual record would be nice.

also the nxcam camera by sony has dual memory sticks, so I guess that's a pretty big incentive to panasonic to match it with the 150a, also it would cost them about $2 to do it so why not.

Its a 'would be nice if' feature... and I bet costing a lot more than $2.

I have shot close to a thousand hours with no problems... no real 'need' imo.

I'd like to see something like the NXcam where you could assign the record buttons to each card.. So, record with button on handle would record on card 1 and record on power/record button would be on card 2. Maybe have an external HDD or flash drive like the NXCam also so you could record on the SDHC with one button and on the flash drive with the other button. Simultaneously of course, like the NXCam.

I've had no problems either, but peace of mid would be nice, and from panasonic's point of view, I think having no backup to the single SD card is putting quite a few potential buyers off, especially if the sony alternative has a feature like that.

My $2 estimate is based on the additional hardware required, basically another card slot on the camera which could easily fit below the current one. There would be some one off engineering/software costs of course, but it's pretty simple stuff really.

I'm keeping an eye out on the NXCam. Dual slots plus being able to use a 128GB SSD, Higher Res LCD (with a better angle of view)... don't get me wrong, i love the HMC150 but also like some of the other features i don't get on the 150. Hope panasonic fixes/changes the LCD and does some updates once the 150a comes out!

150a? Not sure about all that. I think panny is pretty content when it comes to the balance of price vs features on the 150. Like I said, would be nice if :) but I bet the 150 will be out a long time before panny replaces it.

Need variable frame rates before a 2nd SD slot... and a better LCD for sure...

Keep something in mind... the 150 uses the same chips as the 200a, which was itself the updated version. So in a way, the 150 is already the updated version. Other than dual SDHC slots (which I somehow doubt will happen), other than an improved LCD, I don't see anything major that really can be updated on the camera that isn't so drastic that it would make it a whole new camera model. I don't think a 150a will be happening any time soon.

If they took the 3MOS chips from the hpx300 they could keep the same form factor and optics in the 150/70, the electronics may need some changes possibly to cope with the new chips, but it shouldn't be that difficult. It would actually reduce costs for panasonic as CMOS chips are cheaper, and having all 3 cameras with the same chips will give economies of scale.

Don't ever say this if it's not your job to develop the product.

I'm not trying to insult you. I just hate when people provide their own labor estimates. I had a client claim that a particular edit would take "5 minutes" and be "no big deal." It was clear she had no idea what was involved. She just didn't want to pay extra. The job actually took two hours.

My previous job was as a chartered engineer working in a company which designed and built optical/electronic products, so I'm not talking out of my you know what. Of course, I'm not 100% familiar with all the complexities of the hmc150 design, but I think I would have a reasonable idea about what's involved.
