Hello:)

I own the XH-A1 and looking for second camcorder that should be compact this time as I need it for casual shooting.

What do you think of the JVC Everio GZ-HD7 or the Canon HV30?
Appreciate your advice

The latter ,
you could use it as a capture deck for the xha1
And I believe it would be easier to match them .

I haven't heard good things about the HD7--apparently, it has not only video quality problems but also issues with the codec it uses. Don't take my word for it--the CNET article I read on the HD7 may have been wrong. However, I would recommend the HV30, for all the reasons Everts said. I have an HV20 (virtually no difference), and it's a great cam--however, it makes huge sacrifices in the manual features department.

My $.02

i was actually in the same position as you're in now...needed something to complement my xha1 and i was seesaw-ing between getting another A1 or an HV30...in the process i discovered the HMC150. while its probably not the best camera to complement the A1, i got hit hard with its low light performance and cheap SDHC recording media...and decided to pull the trigger...supposed to arrive on january 8th!

but for $540 at B&H with free shipping, the HV30 is still a great buy...obviously it will also serve as your deck. i just decided that i wanted to minimize my tape expenses and that i didnt' want to worry about wearing out the heads or having to "trick" the camera into manual mode.

Thanks.:)
I'm worry that going down for HV30 will made me disappointed as I'll see the video quality with my A1 eyes
But the HMC150 looks bulky though as the A1

considering all the hv20/30 footage online, i dont think there's much to be disappointed about in a camera for that price. it'd be nice to be able to load up presets on it though, and to my knowledge, thats not possible.

and according to owners of the hmc, while it is a bit bigger than the A1, it weighs about 4lbs or less...and is a much better balanced camera than the front heavy A1. i'll find out for myself soon enough!! there's a few users here who also shoot with A1/HMC combo and they seem to be handling it ok.

wow...is this offer even legit? $800 sounds too good to be true.

well, it's not stated, but the way everything is broken out of the box for the photo, and he also says that "original" cables are included....sounds used, but again, it's not stated...hmm
