SDHC dumping...

Agreed.

I got mine for P2 card offloading, but for SD it almost doesn't make sense to go to an intermediary hard drive, now that cards are so cheap...

because i haven't been able to use the camera yet, and i've never shot on anything other than tape, i cant disregard the fear that the sd media might screw around as digital media often tends to do. the idea was to change cards, back them up on a harddrive, and keep on shooting. at least then i'd have two copies of the footage. i dont wanna have to tell a client i lost footage because of something like that.

i've used sd cards on my dslr and i've never had a problem but still...lingering fear.

Hyperdrive

Hyperdrive

Yes,

The latest version of the HyperDrive is designed for photos, but it backs up any SDHC Card. Buying a bunch of cards does not ensure your data will make it back home, say if you are travelling. It is wise to do a backup in the field. So with the Hyperdrive, I can do that, without a laptop.

Which answers the first question of this thread.

I would buy a handfull of SDHC cards, yes. But as I shoot, backing up to the Hyperdrive means I have two copies of my footage when I am far from the studio.

Plus when I get back, I usually pop in the HyperDrive to transfer the footage to my system, every card gets copied with one move. The SDHC cards stay in the bag--just in case.

That is my workflow.

HYPERDRIVE - AVCHD backup in the field.

HYPERDRIVE - AVCHD backup in the field.

But that device doesn't play back footage...

Hey Barry,

Who said that was the requirement---The need is for a backup in the field. The Hyperdrive SPACE model easily fills this need.

It is just to have a secondary copy when I travel to shoot footage. I shot 20 hours of footage using AVCHD while in Europe two summers ago... The Hyperdrive SPACE was my main backup device. It performed flawlessly.

Panasonic makes (made?) a 40GB hard drive for use with the little AVCHD "pro" model that came out in '07, I believe. (cannot for the life of me recall its model#). That should certainly work.

its a nextodi and its awsome, it sucks the data of the card in a instant, i use mine for my hmc 152 , it sucks 16gig of data of the card in about 2 to 3 minutes so the data rate is awsome.

the other day i needed some photo's off a guys digital still camera, 512 pics in about 30 seconds rocked my socks off

now i got a mate how lives in hong kong to get it from taiwan for me he put a sata 2 500gig drive in it, 2 extra external batteries and a leather case cost me about $600 aussie dollars but it is worth every cent

500 gig is lot of wedding footage backed up = piece of mind

The hyperdrive colorspace udma version allows you to use your own 2.5" hard drives and the battery is non proprietary so you can purchase several of each for field use. It actually includes a small screwdriver too.

It also does incremental backup and crc verification of any data copied.
If you purchase the usb/otg /sync device to go with it, you could hookup with a P2->USB reader (or connect to the usb port on the hpx 300) and back up/sync your avc intra video too. Could save a LOT of money on P2 cards.
Pretty cool stuff.

To save money, you can buy the case only version of you already have some drives you want to put to good use.

So I just got my Nexto 2700 after a long wait, seems they were back ordered. I bought it from MyDigital Discount on line (mydigitaldiscount.com/) without an HD in it ($129.99)along with the leather case(9.99), and an extra external battery(19.99) which is still back ordered. Shipping to Canada was $25.00 but fast-24 hours. They are good people and reachable by phone so thats why the plug.
It is simply amazing! I slipped a 320 gig 7200 rpm seagate ($109.00 Cdn)in it and used the enclosed screwdriver and screws to finish the installation.Followed the super simple "morse code" style controls and had it formatted in less than a minute. Did a couple of tests and have to say a very inexpensive piece of insurance.
It will be on my belt or in my vest next shoot for sure!
