SD/SDHC Card Write Speed Tests

Note:

The card I bought on ebay DOES NOT work with 50mbps hacked GH1.

Only those I bought from B&H works properly. Most probably the one from ebay is rejected from QC tests.

Card Reader: Sharkoon Media Reader S
Card Brand: Transcend
Card Type (SD or SDHC or SDXC): SDHC
Card Class: Class 10
Card Size (in GB): 32 GB
Date Purchased: October 2010 from www.alternate.es
Card Burst Write Speed (in Mbps): 97 Mbps. From 80% position, speed drops to 78 Mbps

Good balance between price and performance. I'll buy another one!

Yes, and the overall winner, that Sandisk Extreme III is actually a Class 6 too!!!
There was no official Class 10 rating when I purchased my first Sandisk Extreme III 30mb/sec Class 6 SDHC card and it is faster than the current junk brand Class 10 SDHC cards like ADATA. My homebuilt 6 core PC has USB 3.0 ports on the front of my Coolermaster HAF X 942 case and I will be getting a USB 3.0 SDHC/SDXC card reader when I get a faster card but I really don't need it today since my Panasonic HDC-TM700 3MOS 1080p60 camcorder records 1080p60 clips on a 32GB Sandisk Ultra II SDHC Class 4 15mb/sec card without any speed problems. I have a GH2 coming soon and I will use my Sandisk Extreme 30mb/sec card in it.

I have just received my 32GB Sandisk Extreme 30MB/s bought on ebay. some reason I cant run HD Speed, it just not responding after write speed. so i checked it on atto disk benchmark. I am really dissapointed because write speed is 16MB/s nad read 18MB/s (my transcendt 16GB class 10 have almost same results). is it something wrong with card or I do something wrong?

ADATA 16GB Class 10

ADATA 16GB Class 10

Card Reader: Kingston MobileLite
Card Brand: ADATA
Card Type: SDHC
Card Class: 10
Card Size (in GB) 16
Date Purchased: ?/10
Card Burst Write Speed (in Mbps)45.5 Current; 50.4 Average

I used this card last week for the first time with my GH1 and would occasionally get error message saying the recording was stopped because the card couldn't accept the speed. I don't have a hacked unit. If I figure out why, I'll up date this post.

Hey, those of you who HAVE received your GH2s ... what SDHC card are you finding is best for video? Both speed and protection? Obviously class 10, but Im looking for a brand name.

I have friends who use Transcend and Kingston and say they are fine. But Im reading online that Patriot is the way to go. And then I wonder if I should just get a Panasonic SDHC card to maximize compatibility.

Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

I understand why writing to the camera while filming is important in relation to speed, but why does it matter how fast it transfers off your card and onto your computer? Is the 10min wait really much worse than the 15min wait?

73.2(in Mbps)

remark 1 : too low for a class 10 !
remark 2 :it failed the 44mbps speed required by the "40mbps reliable patch" athough it got 73.2mbps in this test so this this benchmark measuring the average burst write speed is useless because it failed the 44mbps of the "40mbps reliable patch" although it made 73mbps in this test so i guess we should rather measure the minimum write speed (this card must be under 44mbps for this minimum write speed test )

this card worked fine with the 44mbps burst speed of the "high reliablle 40mbps patch"

The performance of the pc used to test is very important as the results below show:

Reader, Brand, Type, Class, Size, Date, BurstWrite
Cheap eBay in old Dell display USB port, Sandisk Extreme, SDHC, Class 10, 32GB, 12/2010, 110.4Mbps
Cheap eBay in i7 Dell pc USB port, Sandisk Extreme, SDHC, Class 10, 32GB, 12/2010, 113.3Mbps
new i5 hp laptop reader, Sandisk Extreme, SDHC, Class 10, 32GB, 12/2010, 72.1Mbps

Edit: This card has performed very well for GH13 and GH2

I notice this thread has been dormant for a while. I have a hacked GH1 and with the Class 10 Transcend card I get sporadic errors. I just downloaded the lated version of HD-Speed from Steelbytes.com (http://www.steelbytes.com/?mid=20) and got the following results:

Using Vista 64 with 12GB DDR3 RAM and i920

Card Reader: Kingston MobileLite
Card Brand: Transcend
Card Type: SDHC
Card Class: 10
Card Size (in GB) 16
Date Purchased: ?/
Card Burst Write Speed (in Mbps)56.5 Current; 56.3 Average

I can remember which hack I used but I think it was the lpowell optimized for 24p.

Anyone care to post a result from the Sandisk Extreme Class 10 that is ratede at 30MB/s?

FYI - I see that Amazon has them at less than $20 each and that is no longer a current item on the Sandisk website.

Also anybody care to post results for the 45MB/s and 95MB/s Sandsik cards? Preferably in 16GB.

Just for grins I ran the test for my aData card for which I posted results in January, 2011. Using the version of HD-Speed available at the time I got:

Card Reader: Kingston MobileLite
Card Brand: ADATA
Card Type: SDHC
Card Class: 10
Card Size (in GB) 16
Date Purchased: ?/10
Card Burst Write Speed (in Mbps)45.5 Current; 50.4 Average

Today, using the latest version of HD-Speed I got:
Card Reader: Kingston MobileLite
Card Brand: ADATA
Card Type: SDHC
Card Class: 10
Card Size (in GB) 16
Date Purchased: ?/10
Card Burst Write Speed (in Mbps)54.5 Current; 50.9 Average

I did notice that there is a much greater fluctuation in the writes speeds on the aData compared to the Transcend card by about 6-8Mbps less than the current number.

I should point out that both this test and the one above were done using USB 2.0.
