Any way to test the HVX firewire port??

Suddenly having problems importing footage from tape to FCP from our HVX - have done this many times. (Yes the came is in VTR mode!)

FCP is not "seeing" HVX - beginning to think we may have a dead firewire port on HVX. Is there any way to test the firewire port?

Thanks

Attach the cam, and then go to the Apple Menu and elect About This Mac, More Info.

Look at the FW bus. Do you see the cam listed there?

Steve,

I had the same problem last week, It would show up in the Mac info dialog But I couldn't get my P2 card to mount. Turned out to be a bad cable.

Good luck
Rob

Doesn't show up anywhere - tried multiple cable - I fear the dreaded bad firewire port - has never been a problem - but barring a miracle I think it needs to go to Panasonic.

Sorry to hear this.

There is a thread indicating someone is going to build a custom FW cable with a fuse.

But nothing about for a number of weeks.

Another problem with the firewire jack are the pins breaking. A fused firewire won't fix this. A support will and even just winding the cable a couple of times around the handle of the camera will provide enough strain relief to help prevent such a thing from happening.

I just encountered this too. One thing to check it that you are not in native mode. That won't show up. Should be in the full rate mode. One test will be to see if you can see it either in cam mode or in VTR.. maybe even try it as an uncontrolled device too.
